WCS Student Named State Chess Champion

Checkmate! Clovercroft Elementary student Ronit Chandra is the district’s latest state champion in chess.
Ronit made his way to the state tournament by winning the city and regional championships. Although he hasn’t been playing chess for very long, Ronit says he’s fascinated by the strategy that’s required to be successful.
“I was five years old when I first started playing chess,” said Ronit. “I enjoy the tactics that we use in chess. By definition, they are a sequence of moves you play and eventually win your opponent’s pieces or land in a better position on the board.”
With three championships already under his belt, Ronit plans to keep working hard so he can take his chess game to the next level.
