WCS Salutes 2016 Grads Entering the Military

Published May 5, 2016

More than two dozen Williamson County students who will be entering the military upon graduation were recognized May 4 at the district’s annual Military Signing Ceremony.

Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney, a retired marine himself, came up with the idea for the event several years ago.

“This is our way of saying thank you to the young men and women who have decided to join the military,” said Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney. “Our country exists because of people like them, and I know they are going to make a tremendous impact on our country in untold ways.”

Twenty-eight students who have chosen military careers, either by signing on for active service or being accepted into one of the country’s military academies or in the reserve, were on hand for this special ceremony. Many of them were joined by friends and family as the district celebrated their decision to serve their country.

The students were awarded an honorary certificate by Williamson County School Board members. The event can be viewed in its entirety in the video below.
