WCS Recognizes School Counselors During National School Counseling Week

Published February 4, 2016

WCS is celebrating National School Counseling Week, sponsored by the American School Counselor Association, from February 1 until February 5.

“The role of the school counselor is a unique position that requires individuals who serve in that capacity to be in tune with the whole child in order to offer support for social and emotional growth while advising students in the academic and career awareness realms,” said WCS Counseling Specialist Pam Lankford. “Williamson County Schools is extremely proud of the dedicated individuals who serve the students and families throughout the district in the capacity of school counselor.”

WCS employs approximately 100 school counselors in its K-12 schools, all of whom are certified educators with a master’s degree in guidance and counseling. The combination of their training and experience makes them an integral part of the total educational program.

These counselors are actively engaged in helping students examine their abilities, strengths, interests and talents. They work in partnership with parents as they encounter the challenges of raising children in today’s world and focus on positive ways to enhance students’ social-emotional growth as well as they educational and career development. They also work with teachers and other educators to provide an educational system where students can realize their potential and set healthy, realistic and optimistic goals for themselves.
