WCS Communications Department Earns National Recognition

For the second year in a row, the Williamson County Schools Communications Department is being honored for its work by the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA).

This month, NSPRA presented the department with three Golden Achievement Awards. These awards are given annually in recognition of exemplary work in all aspects of school public relations, communication, marketing and engagement.

“This is a huge honor for our school district,” said Communications Director Carol Birdsong. “We have a great team that worked extremely hard on these efforts, and it is rewarding to be recognized by our peers around the country for the work we do for Williamson County Schools.”

 

WCS BE NICE

The WCS Communications Department received a Golden Achievement Award for its work on the district’s BE NICE Campaign, which encourages students, staff and the entire community to treat each other with respect.

As part of the campaign, the communications department produced a series of BE NICE Public Service Announcement’s (PSA), one for every school in the district. The district also held a BE NICE Kick-off event at the Franklin Theatre where we premiered the video below.

 

Successory Program

The department also received a Golden Achievement Award for its Successory program, which was launched in October, 2014.

The program was created as a way to help students recognize the teachers, bus drivers, cafeteria workers, teacher assistants or others who play an important role in their education.

During each Successory week, students are given the opportunity to nominate a WCS employee. A random drawing is held and one employee from each school then receives a prize. Below is a Successory form the district received from Pearre Creek Elementary.

 

WCS Profile of Excellence

Lastly, Williamson County School’s Profile of Excellence, February 2015 was also recognized for excellence with a Golden Achievement Award.

The six page document provides a snapshot of district operations along with student, staff and school successes. Comments from Williamson County Mayor Rogers Anderson, Williamson Inc. President and CEO Matt Largen and others are also included.

Franklin High Digital Arts and Design Teacher Melissa Estes worked with the Communications Department to create the Profile of Excellence.
