Third Grader Wins State Handwriting Contest

Published May 5, 2016

In this age of texting and tweeting, a WCS student is earning recognition for her handwriting.

Hunters Bend Elementary School third grader Olivia Wallace was chosen as the grade-level winner for Tennessee in Zaner-Bloser’s 25th Annual National Handwriting Contest. Zaner-Bloser is a digital resources provider that specializes in handwriting, language arts and literacy.

Olivia’s work was chosen from nearly 275,000 entries from students around the country. Each participating school held its own handwriting contest, and then one student was chosen from each grade to be entered in the state level competition. Students were judged based on the size, shape, spacing and slant of their handwriting.

For her win, Olivia earned a medallion, a pizza party for her class and a $200 Zaner-Bloser’s coupon for her school. Next up, Olivia will participate in the National Grade-Level Semifinalist competition.
