Students Earn High Honors at State Thespian Conference

It was a great weekend for WCS thespians as many won awards at this year’s Tennessee State Thespian Conference.
Students from Brentwood, Centennial, Franklin, Independence, Page, Ravenwood and Summit high schools attended the conference January 15 and 16. Not only did they attend, but some WCS students performed on the main stage, three students were named to the executive board and two received scholarships.
The following WCS students were elected to the 2016-17 state executive board, which is comprised of six students from across the state:
- Tomas Starr, Brentwood High (President)
- Charlie Cummings, Page High
- Olivia Hendrix, Independence High
Katilin Logan from Franklin High won the $1,000 Robert E. Crain Musical Theatre Scholarship, which is given to a senior student who desires to further his or her fine arts education in college or in a specialized academy. As part of the application process, each student prepares a Broadway show tune and one acting monologue to be presented to the judges. Judges then award the scholarship based on performance, interview, arts involvement and academic achievement.
Quincy Francis from Centennial High also won the $1,000 Mark Collins Memorial Tech Scholarship, which is given to a senior who wants to further his or her fine arts education in college. As part of the application process, each student prepares two technical presentations which were presented to the judges. Judges then award the scholarship based on performance, interview, arts involvement and academic achievement.
Additionally, Brentwood High was chosen to perform its fall production of Any Number Can Die on January 15. They performed to a crowd of close to 1,000 people.
