The information below is provided by each school. Schools are listed in alphabetical order according to grade level.

Elementary Schools

Allendale Elementary

On Friday, September 4, Allendale students supported the “Hats Off to United Way” campaign. Each student had the opportunity to donate and wear a hat in support. Many students participated and wore some very unique hats. Even Allie Alligator got in on the act and donated so she could wear a hat. The students raised a total of $147. Way to go, Alligators!

Bethesda Elementary

Shelly Bosarge’s fourth grade math class is using skill practice cards to learn how to round large numbers.

Clovercroft Elementary

Clovercroft Elementary will host Family Math Night on Thursday, September 17 from 5 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. Students and parents will be able to participate in many fun math activities. Over the next few weeks, the second grade classes will observe the life cycle of a Painted Lady butterfly. The students will watch their own caterpillar grow, shed its skin several times, transform into a chrysalis, and emerge as a black and orange butterfly – all within less than a month. As butterflies are part of the natural world, the second graders will release their butterflies into their natural environment within our school’s grounds. Meanwhile, students have had fun celebrating Color Days!

College Grove Elementary

This summer, College Grove Elementary had eight new classrooms added to expand our growing school community. It was our great honor to dedicate the opening of our new wing to our beloved Mrs. Janie Rakes in memory her 35 years of service to College Grove Elementary and our College Grove community. In addition, her family started the Janie Rakes Memorial Scholarship fund and we awarded the first recipient, Ms. Morgan Rakes, this school year during our dedication ceremony. The love and care that Mrs. Janie gave our school and community will forever be remembered and hold a special place in our hearts.

Crockett Elementary

Crockett Elementary School kicked off its Invest in Your Child Campaign with Spirit Week. Students had fun showing their spirit with Tacky Tie Tuesday, We the People Wednesday, Tropical Thursday and Class Color Wars. Tonight is Spirit Night with a family movie and food trucks.

Edmondson Elementary

Kindergartners in Shelly Lindsey’s class at Edmondson Elementary are learning about the helpers in our community. Officer Wood came to talk to the students about his job as a policeman and showed them the cool tools he uses every day. Officer Holder brought Lexi (the police dog) and he taught them what a great helper she is in our community too.

Fairview Elementary

We are writing up a storm here at Fairview Elementary this week! We find time to write everywhere: in reading class, in social studies class, in the library, even in math class?! That’s right. Third graders wrote in their math journals about what number they would like to be in they could be any number. The answers were great. Who says you can’t write about math. We are also ready to start our book fair on Friday, September 11. Students can’t wait to see all the new books. We look forward to seeing parents on Thursday, September 17 from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. for our family night.

Heritage Elementary

Students and staff are celebrating spirit week this week in celebration of the upcoming HES night at the Independence High School home game, Friday – September 11. HES is having a lot of fun with Tropical Tuesday, Sports Day Wednesday, Super Hero Thursday and BE NICE Friday! Friday night will be the 4th annual HES Football Night at Independence High School! Students and their families will enjoy tailgating prior to the game and will form a tunnel and cheer on the football team before kickoff.

Hunters Bend Elementary

It’s Spirit Week at Hunters Bend! Students have celebrated by dressing up on the following days: Tacky Tuesday, Whiteout Wednesday, Throwback Thursday and Favorite Team Friday. Get in the Spirit, Hound dogs!

Kenrose Elementary

Kenrose Elementary third grade students are enjoying the time they get to spend in the library. Also, PTO would like to remind everyone that September 18 is Family Fun Night.

Longview Elementary

Second graders at Longview Elementary are learning about osmosis in science class with the help of some gummy bears.

Nolensville Elementary

Students in Annamarie Miller’s fourth grade class were involved in several hands on science experiments. A favorite was the demonstration of weathering and erosion. Cooperative groups were formed and each student had a job to complete. Students modeled water erosion and the effects water has on land. They measured the length and width of the stream as well as the width of the deposition. They made predictions and compared their results with other simulations to deepen their understanding of the vocabulary.

Oak View Elementary

Ms. Pinkston’s first grade class is busy reviewing the five senses. This will transition them into learning about the scientific method. Meanwhile, Mrs. Chapman’s fourth grade class is working with their science kits on land and water. They will be learning about deposition, erosion and weathering in science.

Scales Elementary

The kindergarten students are sharing “All About Me” projects. In math, they’re exploring ways to make five while also identifying and writing numbers. Meanwhile, students in Rachel Gifford’s first grade class have been practicing rhythm in music class with Stephanie Vines.

Trinity Elementary

Fifth graders are staying busy at Trinity Elementary School. In Ms. Drossner’s homeroom, students have been playing buddy games, using an iPad for Dreambox, and having FUN while learning math! Mrs. Grace’s homeroom has been learning about technology and how to access their math textbooks at home with our amazing math coach, Erin Cates. In Mrs. Trubey’s homeroom, students are practicing B.U.I.L.D. stations in math, such as buddy games!

Walnut Grove Elementary

There was exciting news for the Student Ambassador Club at Walnut Grove. Dr. Looney was invited to participate in their discussion on student leadership. The club is a group of fourth and fifth graders interested in helping out around the school and modeling positive behaviors. They discussed how students present themselves by using effective communication in social situations, address and welcome guests, how to start and end conversations, and being confident while focusing on first impressions. Dr. Looney made quite an impression. Mitch Lemon, a WGES student, said, “I’m sure glad I made an extra effort to get to school this morning. I liked Dr. Looney.”

Westwood Elementary

Students in Kimberly Putnam’s second grade class at Westwood Elementary are learning about punctuation. In PE, the kids have been working on their punt, pass and catching competition. Last but not least, congratulations to the Westwood students who won this year’s Fairview High School Battle of the Banners contest.

Winstead Elementary

First grade is busy at Winstead Elementary. Students are actively learning about forces of motion in science and experimenting how objects move on different types surfaces. In social studies, students are learning about our country’s patriotic traditions and appropriate behaviors during the Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem. In art class, students are working on Art To Remember by drawing silly self-portraits.

Middle Schools

Brentwood Middle

BMS’s PTO hosted a new family breakfast to welcome them to our community and give parents a chance to meet others in their same situation. Administration was available to answer questions.

Fairview Middle

Anna Nicole Matlock, an eighth grade student at Fairview Middle School, received a citizenship award for her service to the Ronald McDonald House of Nashville. Over the summer, Anna and her family collected 14 gallons of “pop tabs” (canned drink tabs) from various places. These “tabs” were donated to the Ronald McDonald House to support families with children in the hospital that stay at RMHC or visit the Family Room.

Grassland Middle

Mrs. Kunze’s sixth grade science class recently completed the Penny Bridge Lab. Students experimented with bridge building and the gravitational pull of certain materials. The bridge, made from a single piece of paper should span a gap between two stacks of textbooks and support at least 100 pennies. Students featured in the picture constructed a bridge sustaining 280 pennies. Way to Go GMS Generals! The GMS Dance team is selling Butter Braids to raise money for the team. These yummy pastry treats are great for social gatherings, holidays, weekends and chilly mornings. Please support the GMS Dance team by purchasing one of these pastries. Hillsboro School

The Hillsboro Coin Drive is happening now through November 1. Five gallon water jugs will be placed in each class daily from 8 a.m. until 8:15 a.m. Students can also donate any time after school. The school hopes to raise $10,000 so please bring in your small change and make a big difference. Popsicle parties will be awarded to the top fundraising classes in K-2, 3-5, 6th, 7th and 8th grade.

Page Middle

On Labor Day, 40 Page Middle cross-country runners got up early on their holiday to run 3.1 miles in the Franklin Classic. This is twice the length of the races they run in meets. Mick Pulis came in first in the 15-19 age group with an amazing time of 19:51.14 minutes! Jacob Cucullu came in first in the 10-14 age group with an awesome time of 20:37.02 and Grant Boonstra came in second in the same age group with an impressive time of 21:32.54! Page Middle is so proud of our runners for challenging themselves and can’t wait to do this again next year and make it a tradition.

Spring Station Middle

Students in Mrs. Leake’s class are working on refining their writing skills through citing evidence from Edgar Allan Poe’s, “The Tell Tale Heart.” Students are learning to annotate and analyze texts to find solid evidence to support a developed thesis statement. In this particular class, students were recognizing the various literary techniques that Poe used to create suspense, were identifying textual evidence as support and then explaining how each piece of evidence developed the tone of suspense throughout the story. Mrs. Leake said, “Lessons such as these are rigorous, but we are all learning together. This will make us all better readers and writers.”

Woodland Middle

Students at Woodland Middle are having fun as they explore the world of science in Science Club.

High Schools

Brentwood High

Brentwood High School is proud to announce the following students as National Merit Semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program. Brentwood had a record 16 Semifinalists. The 16,000 Semifinalists were selected from the more than 1.5 million entrants in the National Merit Program. Students entered the competition by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The semifinalists represent less than one percent of each state’s high school seniors.

Centennial High

There will be a meeting for 10th and 11th grade parents at the CHS PAC on Tuesday, September 15 at 7 p.m. All sophomore and junior parents are encouraged to attend. On Thursday, September 17, CHS will be holding Parent/Teacher Conferences from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. Watch for the link on our website to sign up if you need to meet with your student’s teachers. There will also be an Open House for Spanish Speaking families on Thursday, September 17 from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. in the CHS Library. A meeting for freshman parents will be held on Thursday, September 17 in the PAC at 7 p.m. All freshman parents are encouraged to attend.

Fairview High

Congratulations to Fairview High School student Jacob Raines who was named a National Merit Semifinalist this week. Fairview High will host the Battle of the Bands for WCS this Saturday September 12. The event will begin at 7 p.m.

Franklin High

FHS JROTC conducted a brief 9-11 Remembrance Ceremony September 11 at the flagpole. Also on Friday, Cadet Lauren Hall received the Legion of Valor Bronze Cross for Achievement. Officer Clayton Cates, Franklin Police Department and a combat veteran, made the presentation. Meanwhile, the PSAT will be administered at Franklin on Wednesday, October 14 during the school day. Students in grades 9-11 may register for the PSAT no later than September 18 at a cost of $18. Please pay online at http://osp.osmsinc.com/WilliamsonTN/. This will serve as your registration when you select the PSAT for the correct grade level and include your student’s full legal name on the payment page. When asked for a student ID, use either the student ID or any family phone number. If you prefer not to pay online, see Mrs. Cavender gina.cavender@wcs.edu in the counseling center and pay with check or exact change. Study guides will be available in the counseling center.

Independence High

The 2015 IHS Homecoming Game will be held September 18 at 7 p.m. as the Eagles take on Summit High. The IHS Homecoming Dance will take place the next night, September 19 from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m.

Page High

The Page High School Drama Club cordially invites you to a Princess Tea Party. The party will take place September 19 from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. in the Page High School Theatre. Registration is $10 per child; adults attend for free. Dressing in princess attire is encouraged but not required. Activities include face painting, nail painting, a pumpkin carriage, karaoke and more! Best of all, children will be able to meet their favorite princess! Ravenwood High

This past Thursday, Ravenwoods’ most talented took the stage for the theatre departments annual Talent Show. There was an array of performances ranging from vocal ability to dance crew craftsmanship. Seniors Alissa Dickey, Jacobi Price and Sarah Wiuff electrified the stage with an energetic dance number. Nolan Harvel graced the crowd with two amazing classical guitar pieces and Sidney Holley blew the crowd away with her powerful performance of Bennie and the Jets. Overall an amazing night of entertainment that will be talked about for years to come.

Renaissance High

This nine weeks, the juniors are creating a choose-your-own-adventure story that follows a character in America prior to 1910. Students have chosen topics that cover the Revolutionary War to the Civil War, the Underground Railroad to the Gold Rush. By the end of the nine weeks, they will have created interesting stories for you to follow characters through history and be a part of helping them make choices. We are looking forward to seeing the stories that come out of this interesting time in America’s history!

Summit High
