The information below is provided by each school. Schools are listed in alphabetical order according to grade level.
Elementary Schools
Bethesda Elementary
Bethesda Elementary students recently showed off their school spirit. All kindergarten students were celebrating 50 days of school by dressing like the fifties. The Bethesda Book Fair will be held November 2-6. Family Book Fair and Reading Night will be Tuesday, November 3 from 3:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. Please note that the Book Fair this year will be held in the Bethesda Elementary School Library.
Chapman’s Retreat Elementary
CRES kindergartners went on a field trip to Gentry’s Farm. The working farm is a great place for students to learn about plant life cycle. In addition, students took a hayride to the pumpkin patch, went through a mini maze and did other hands-on activities.
Clovercroft Elementary
Clovercroft’s art fundraiser began on October 22 and will continue until November 11. This fundraiser takes the students’ artwork and makes it into great products for families to purchase. These products are wonderful keepsakes and gifts for family and friends. Clovercroft will also host parent-teacher conferences on Thursday, October 29 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.
College Grove Elementary
It’s fall ya’ll! We had a blast at our annual Fall Festival. Our children had such a great time here in the Grove participating in things such as face painting, bounce houses, hay rides, pony rides and many other fun activities. Thanks to our parents and community for helping support another fun Fall Fest.
Crockett Elementary
This week, third graders at Crockett Elementary visited the Williamson County Ag Fun Fair. They visited stations where they learned about food and fiber and the importance of agriculture in our everyday life. Fifth graders also had a field trip this week. They visited JA Biztown where they ran a mock community and learned about business, personal finance, voting and philanthropy. Next week, the fall Book Fair will be happening with a family night featuring Mr. Bond, the Science Guy, on Wednesday, October 28 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and a Breakfast with Moms on Thursday, October 29.
Edmondson Elementary
Edmondson Elementary recently held classroom Harvest Parties. One of the games the third graders played was a mummy wrap activity. Students took turns wrapping a partner in tissue to look like a mummy. Mrs. Darlene Shelton’s students asked if they could wrap her up too. The result was top notch.
Fairview Elementary
Fairview Elementary is right back to hitting the books after our fall break! We are working to promote reading. Two grade levels have offered incentives for students who can read over 100 books. In first grade, if 75 percent of the students hit their 100 book goal, our principal Mr. Oakley will kiss a pig. The students love the challenge and some have already met their goal. In second grade, students are working toward a similar goal involving minutes read and more pig kissing. First graders are also learning about fall and fall leaves. After reading a book abut the shapes leaves can make, students were inspired to make some of their own.
Grassland Elementary
October is National Down Syndrome Awareness month. To support and raise awareness, Student Support Services all wore matching t-shirts. GES staff an students wore blue and yellow representing Down Syndrome Awareness. GES…Be, Show, Do!
Hunters Bend Elementary
It’s been a busy week for our kindergartner students at Hunders Bend. In library, the students read different versions of The Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf. They were then instructed to count out 12 gumdrops and any number of toothpicks to build a house. Once their houses were built, they used a hair dryer to try to blow their house down. Kindergarten has some really good builders!
Kenrose Elementary
Kenrose Elementary second graders released butterflies. They watched them grow from caterpillars into butterflies in the classroom and learned about their life cycle.
Lipscomb Elementary
The LES student council theme this year is “Be the Good.” They are gearing up for Red Ribbon Week while sharing the message with their buddy classrooms. In other news, third graders at Lipscomb Elementary recently visited the Tennessee State Capital and the Tennessee State Museum.
Longview Elementary
Long Elementary celebrated Spirit Week October 20-24. Our students most enjoyed our Wacky Wednesday and went all out with their wild wear!
Nolensville Elementary
Fun run was a huge success at Nolensville Elementary. Students in every grade level participated. Pledges from 42 states and five different countries have been collected. The PTO will use these funds to purchase new technology for the school. Alderman Brian Snyder, Mayor Jimmy Alexander and parents stopped by to cheer on participants, pass out water and help count laps.
Sunset Elementary
This week the fifth graders at Sunset Elementary are interviewing for JA Biztown positions. The fifth graders are excited about their November trip and took their interviews very seriously.
Trinity Elementary
Fourth grade students enjoyed a presentation by a Nashville historian who talked about the history of Native Americans.
Walnut Grove Elementary
Guidance lessons at Walnut Grove this week are about helping kids prevent bullying. The motto taught in guidance is: Be a friend to everyone…don’t put a wrinkle in someone else’s heart. In the educational game, Bully Wise, students will play a fun game of dominoes while also learning about bully prevention. Bully Wise helps students’ develop some real strategies to use in school to reduce bullying and violence. These lessons begin our celebration of Red Ribbon Week. Red Ribbon Week is a fun, educational way for children to learn the importance of staying healthy and making wise decisions, all while learning about preventing bullying and saying no to drugs.
Westwood Elementary
Pre-K students at Westwood Elementary had a great time running laps at this year’s Fun Run! Thanks to all the parents who volunteered and came out to help.
Winstead Elementary
First graders are busy learning to recognize map symbols and are working to identify Tennessee on a map. Students will also be practicing how to follow a map around our school by using cardinal directions. First grade art classes are learning about organic shapes, as well as warm and cool colors. Students are creating fall artwork of a leaf using warm colors and painting a color wash over their artwork. Dates to remember: November 2-6 will be Dad’s week in PE. and the Winstead Library Book Fair is November 13-19.
Middle Schools
Fairview Middle
Red Ribbon Week takes place October 26-30 at Fairview Middle School! Students will participate in dress up days to show their stand against drugs and alcohol. Monday is Decades Day, Tuesday is Superhero Day, Wednesday is Wacky Socks and Hats Day, Thursday is Pajama Day and Friday is Opposite Day where students and teachers swap dress styles.
Grassland Middle
Grassland Middle School is proud to be the first and only WCS middle school to offer a Robotics class as part of its Related Arts curriculum. Students build, program and control Vex robots in order to complete a variety of challenges. This class focuses on critical thinking, problem solving, teamwork and creative solutions. Students spend nine weeks in the class and during that time they attempt to accomplish daily mini-challenges as well as long-term projects which become increasingly more challenging. Don’t forget…Grassland Games, Wednesday, October 28 from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. The cost is $20 per student in advance or $25 at the door. This annual fundraiser helps to support the GMS CIT3 good behavior program.
Heritage Middle
Eighth grade students at Heritage Middle explored the periodic table utilizing text resources, online resources and creative expression.
Hillsboro School
Join the Hillsboro Snack Attach Community Outreach. Donations of individually wrapped, non-perishable snacks/drinks will go toward use during after school tutoring and to help stock the Williamson County food pantry. Please drop off donations to the HEMS front office. Examples of donations include bottled water, juice boxes, chex mix, cheez-its, individual cereals, breakfast bars, granola bars and cheese and crackers.
Spring Station Middle
The Spring Station Middle School Band is hosting the fifth annual Holiday Station Marketplace on Saturday, December 5 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Spring Station Middle. This event is a shopping extravaganza with many local vendors from our community. The event will also include music, Santa pictures, door prizes and so much more! Woodland Middle
Congratulations to the October Students of the Month! They are Thomas Cooper – Cherokee, Ally Carpenter – Choctaw, Taylor Ey – Shawnee, Casey Gooden – Chickasaw, Kevin Ready – Iroquois, Kinsey Smeltzer – Eighth Grade and Drake Hemby – Eighth Grade.
High Schools
Brentwood High
The boys and girls cross country teams recently won the Mid-State Championships for the third year in a row. In other athletic news, the Volleyball team will pursue a state title (this would be a three-peat if BHS wins) on Friday, October 23 at MTSU. Game time is 3 p.m. Congratulations and good luck, Bruins!
Centennial High
In February of 2016, the CHS Vocal Music students will be travelling to Disney in Florida for a workshop on film scoring. They will have the amazing opportunity to record vocal tracks in a studio setting to a Disney film, and then receive a final product of the work. Disney will also host a live performance opportunity for them while there. This will provide rich and relevant learning opportunities for the students. The estimated cost of the trip is approximately $800 per student and the CHS vocal students have formulated a plan to help offset the cost of this incredible opportunity. For a donation equivalent to covering the cost for one student, you can have a small octet of Centennial top vocalists or the Chamber Choir perform at you corporate event this fall. Fairview High
The Lady Jackets soccer team won the district championship! Coach Kevin Sizemore was also named District 1 coach of the year. Congratulations! In other news, JTG students, along with community volunteers, beautified the courtyard on October 20.
Page High
Gather some 1940’s show-biz types, a spooky old mansion with sliding panels, secret passageways, a sinister German maid, wacky wit and murder and voila! A non-stop barrage of laughter as those assembled untangle the mystery of the Stage Door Slasher. The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940 will be presented at the Page High School Auditorium November 5-7 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $7; $5 for children ages 12 and under. Other happenings at Page include a senior meeting in the auditorium on Tuesday, October 28 in reference to senior announcements. Senior announcement orders will be taken Tuesday, November 3 during lunch. Friday, October 30 there is a blood drive and Wednesday, November 4 is the senior selection deadline for pictures.
Ravenwood High
The Ravenwood Speech and Debate program recently earned recognition from the National Speech and Debate Association. The recognition is based on a point system and Ravenwood has ranked among the top 7.5% of schools nationwide and earned membership in the Association’s prestigious 200 Club. The milestone is remarkable because it demonstrates outstanding commitment to teaching students life skills including communications, research, listening, writing and organization. Congratulations to Mr. Brian Kaufman for facilitating such a successful program.
Summit High
The eighth grade pre-engineering classes are putting their learning into action as they have been studying sketching, measurement and virtual design. The students are using an online platform to design a virtual race car, then make modifications to make an actual CO2 race car that we will race in a Dragster Meet on Friday.
