The information below is provided by each school. Schools are listed in alphabetical order according to grade level.

Elementary Schools

Allendale Elementary

The kindergartners at Allendale Elementary celebrated the 100th day of school dressed in their best antique outfit. The boys and girls had a blast studying all about the number 100.

Bethesda Elementary

On February 23, Mrs. Chelsey Richard’s Pre-K class learned how to take care of their teeth. They have a paper picture of a tooth and they are practicing brushing the paper tooth with a toothbrush and white paint to make their teeth pretty, white and shiny. The students are learning how to keep their own teeth healthy and clean by brushing them twice a day, every day.

Clovercroft Elementary

Clovercroft’s third graders will participate in Market Day on Friday, February 26. The students will create their own product and sell it to fellow third graders during Market Day. Clovercroft will also host the fifth Annual Book Character Parade on Friday, March 4 to celebrate Read Across America.

College Grove Elementary

College Grove Elementary Student Council, partnering with the school’s SACC program, started a school-wide initiative to collect aluminum pull tabs in efforts to support Nashville’s Ronald McDonald House. During the first week of the program, the school collected approximately 32 pounds in pull tabs!

Edmondson Elementary

Lady Liberty visited the kindergartners at Edmondson Elementary to conclude their theme of U.S.A. symbols. Lady Liberty brought history to life as she told them about being a gift from France, the meaning of her name, how big she is and much more.

Fairview Elementary

Fairview Elementary is getting excited for our PTO auction this Saturday, February 27 from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. Every class has a themed basket they are auctioning off full of good stuff! The classes also have made personal items that each student in the class contributed to. Each one is different and each one is special- you won’t want to miss out on getting one! There are also some new teacher themed items being auctions off this year like soccer with your teachers and a trip to the zoo with your specials teachers. You will even be able to purchase yards of duct tape to help tape a teacher up to the wall! They will go fast, so you will want to make sure you are here on time. Last week, the International Lunch Club celebrated the continent of Australia. On Thursday, February 18 and Friday, February 19, students in grades Pre-K through fifth grade who completed a project were able to attend a lunch down under. They experienced Australian music, food and culture. So much fun!

Grassland Elementary

Students in fifth grade are studying how force and mass affects the distance traveled. Students are using the Motion and Design Science Kit to build a vehicle. They then conduct a variety of investigations to test the effects of force on the speed of an object’s motion. Student are loving all of the hands-on exploration that is happening on a daily basis.

Heritage Elementary

Heritage Elementary has many events coming up on the calendar. PTO Sponsored movie night is scheduled for Friday, February 26 from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. PTO will be hosting Spring Fling on Saturday March 12 from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Arm bands will be $15 and cover all games, bounces houses and activities. Second grade student Isabela Lacko from Mrs. Maloney’ class shares her reading success with Principal Robertson.

Hunters Bend Elementary

First graders at Hunters Bend Elementary were able to skype with author Deborah Freedman as part of World Read Aloud Day on February 24.

Lipscomb Elementary

Maggie Buckley and Eisley Cowart are new members to the BE NICE club at Lipscomb Elementary.

Longview Elementary

Longview Elementary kicked off their Book Fair with a “Feelin’ Groovy” theme. Longview students broke out the tie-dye, bell bottoms, and fringe to dress in their best 60’s Hippie attire! Despite school being closed for two days due to snowy weather, the fair was a success! Over $3000 was raised for the Longview School Library.

Nolensville Elementary

Friday, February 19 was a very special night for Nolensville daddies and daughters. The PTO hosted its annual Daddy/Daughter Dance. The theme this year was Glitter and Glamour. Everyone looked fabulous and festive from head to toe. Daughters dazzled in their divine dresses and Dads were all decked out in their dapper duds. Brian Snyder from Snyder Entertainment provided entertainment. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped make the night successful.

Scales Elementary

Fifth grade students at Scales Elementary had fun this week with Geo-panes math experiments in Debbie Heiman’s class. Additionally, Dr. Looney visited Scales this week.

Sunset Elementary

Sharada Ghantasala won the first Community Spelling Bee. There were about 70 people in attendance and the Bee went 22 rounds.Sharada was victorious with the word scarifier, which is an implement or machine that tears up the surface of a road prior to resurfacing. Thank you to the Brentwood Library for providing space, judges and pronouncers.

Trinity Elementary

This month’s character word is Teamwork. Mrs. Lynch’s class was working on teamwork activities this week! Each group had to stack six cups three stories high without touching the cups with their hands! Each student had a piece of yarn tied to one rubber band, and together they had to stack the cups as a team. Each group proved to be successful with their teamwork strategies with a smile in the end!

Walnut Grove Elementary

Third grade students are engaged in “The Scientific Method” in their chemical testing unit. With lab coats and eye goggles on, they are performing chemical experiments with the guidance of their teachers. They are learning that common household chemicals have different physical and chemical properties and when combined with water make different solutions. These chemicals undergo changes in form, color, or texture when they are mixed. Chemicals can be classified as acids, bases or neutral substances. Students develop skills in observation, recording, questioning, analyzing, and drawing conclusions about the data collected, and skills important to solving a problem and working together.

Westwood Elementary

The Kindergarten students at Westwood are learning about animal habitats, needs, and how to classify them. In math, they are studying flat and solid shapes. ​The Kindergarten students are excited that the field trip to the Nashville Symphony has been rescheduled for the end of April. We had missed it due to a snow day!

Winstead Elementary

Second Graders at Winstead Elementary are preparing for their Recycling/Earth Day Program Friday. Students study recycling in their academic class as well as sing songs in Music class, and create artwork with recycled materials in Art class. Students are learning about the Sun and how the ozone effects our planet and the many ways we can help take care of the environment through Recycling, Reducing and Reusing material and waste on the planet. Important Dates to Remember: The Father/Daughter Dance is on Friday February 26 from 6 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Spring Break is March 21-25.

Middle Schools

Grassland Middle

Meteorologist Charlie Neese recently visited the GMS sixth grade to share his expertise and love of weather and all things related. Mr. Neese is a great story teller and thoroughly entertained both students and faculty. Thanks Mr. Neese and Ohara for showing your generous GMS spirit! Save the Date: Get ready for Peace, Love and BOOKS at the Scholastic Feelin’ Groovy Book Fair March 7-9 (Family Night is March 8 until 7 p.m.). Attention current sixth grade parents – it is time to start thinking about preparing for the seventh grade. Students are required to have their TDAP Booster and two Varicella shots prior to the beginning of the 2015-2016 school year. If you have any doctor’s visits scheduled, save yourself a trip and be sure to get the immunizations while you are there. Please turn your updated form into the office.

Heritage Middle

HMS eighth graders are observing Beta fish in Science class.

Hillsboro School

Hillsboro School had three eighth grade winners from the Independence High Puppy Love Essay Writing Contest. Kaelan Asch placed first, Kenson Pope placed second and Anna Leigh placed third.

Page Middle

On February 14 and 16, Barnes and Noble held a Book Fair to benefit the Page Middle School Library! Authors Kristin O’Donnell Tubb and Stephanie Faris were at the store on February 14 to sign copies of their books. Students from Page Middle Drama, Band and Chorus performed from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. on February 16th. Our talented students dazzled the large audience with skits, choral music and small ensembles. Author Chris Gabenstein, co-author of the Middle School: Worst Years of My Life books, with James Patterson, was in attendance to talk about his books and sign copies. Thank you all for coming out to support our library and give the gift of books to your children. A percentage of the proceeds will go to purchasing new books for our school library. That’s a win, win!

Spring Station Middle

Spring Station Middle School hosted the second Annual Mustang Invitational over the weekend of February 19 and 20. The tournament determined a sixth grade girls and boys and JV girls and boys Champion for the Williamson Middle Athletic Association. The championship game for the sixth grade girls was between Grassland and Brentwood with Brentwood winning. The sixth grade boys Championship featured Brentwood against Sunset with Brentwood again taking the win. The JV girls championship came down to a matchup between Woodland and Grassland with Grassland winning. The final contest pitted the JV Boys squads from top seeded Spring Station and number two seeded Freedom. Spring Station held off a late charge by Freedom to win the Championship. The win earned the Mustangs their 19th straight win to cap off an undefeated season.

Sunset Middle

The sixth grade students in Mrs. Midden’s History class practiced their calligraphy skills as part of a unit on the development of writing the Shang Dynasty in Ancient China. For National History Day 2016, students met at MTSU on February 18 to display the results of their research of an historical event through an essay, documentary, website, performance, or exhibit. The theme was Exploration, Encounter, Exchange. Joel Barnes earned second place, Individual Website, Junior Division and Trystan Wepking earned third place, Individual Exhibit, Junior Division.

Woodland Middle

Congratulations to the JV Lady Warriors who placed second in the WMAA County Tournament. The girls had an outstanding overall season with a record of 16-2! JV team members are Lexi Erickson, Erin Gwydir, Georgia McNamara, Maddie Gleason, Ava Lavigne, Shelly Stacy, Jaila Lee, Rachel Hillman, Hannah Less, Avery Wissmar, Ginger Grace Hester, Elena Abel (not pictured) and Coach Reasonover.

High Schools

Centennial High

The CHS Chamber Choir just returned from an amazing opportunity with Disney Performing Arts. Over President’s Day weekend, they had the opportunity to perform in the recently rebranded Disney Springs entertainment complex at Walt Disney World. The following day they participated in a two hour 30 minute film scoring workshop under the direction of clinician Delisa Dean in which they recorded audio for two scenes from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast and came away with a DVD product of the recording session. It was an amazing and relevant experience strongly aligned with the district’s vision that the students will likely never forget.

Franklin High

Page High

Congratulations to the Patriot Wrestling Team. The following wrestlers placed in the TSSAA State Wrestling Tournament: Alek Filaroski: Fifth Place, Nick Oberstaedt, Fifth Place, Andrew Birchett: Second Place (*Andrew is the highest state placer in Page High School history), John Noe: Sixth Place and Houston Tywater: Third Place. This is the highest number of medalists from one state tournament in school history. Page wrestling also finished eighth in the team scoring, which is higher than any other A/AA school in Middle Tennessee. Congratulations to Coach Benji Gray and all the team on a great year! Summit High

Suha, a Spring Hill resident and WCS volunteer, came to teacher Kate Hickey’s Contemporary Issues class to discuss the Syrian refugee crisis. Students got to ask questions to Suha after reading a New York Times article and they expanded their view of the life of a refugee through a first-hand account. Suha also talked about her experiences as a Muslim woman and her dedication to awareness for Syria in the community.
