The information below is provided by each school. Schools are listed in alphabetical order according to grade level.

Elementary Schools

Bethesda Elementary

Students in Mr. Amore’s first grade class at Bethesda have been practicing their handwriting skills each day. They’ve been learning about capital letters, punctuation and more.

Chapman’s Retreat Elementary

At our weekly assembly, the Rotary Club of Spring Hill and Thompson Station presented a trophy and check to Chapman’s Retreat PE Department for the most participants in the Grey Ghost this year. The Grey Ghost 5K is a certified 3.1 mile run held at the Oaklawn Plantation in Spring Hill every October. CRES had more than 200 participants consisting of students, teachers and parents. In other news, the Chapman’s Retreat Teacher of the Year is Kim Pantall and the Classified Employee of the Year is Linda Meese.

Clovercroft Elementary

Clovercroft’s third graders will visit the Tennessee State Capitol and the Tennessee State Museum as they wrap up their study on government. The students will tour the governor’s reception room, bullet-scarred stair rail, House of Representatives, Senate and old State Library. At the museum, the students will view exhibits that begin with prehistoric people and continue through the early 1900s. On December 4, Clovercroft’s Colt Chorale will perform for the residents of the Bethany Health and Rehabilitation Center in Nashville.

Crockett Elementary

Crockett Elementary School is pleased to announce that Sybil Davis has been named Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Davis, a fifth grade teacher, has been teaching for 20 years. She was nominated by parents and then voted on by faculty and staff. In other news, the second grade music program “Snowflakes” was performed on Thursday night was wonderful. Also, the school will be collecting Laundry detergent for the Ronald McDonald House Charities. All types of detergent will be accepted. All detergent donated will be delivered to the RMHC offices on Friday, December 18. In upcoming events, next Tuesday, December 8 from 4:15 p.m. until 6 p.m., we will be having a Parent Information Night for parents (only) with children in grades 2-5. Lisa Breskow, our Math Coach, along with some other teachers will discuss the new Go Math curriculum, electronic resources, the structure of the Math class, planning, and the pacing of teaching. Edmondson Elementary

The fifth grade students at Edmondson enjoyed an in-house field trip with guest speaker, Jim Williams. Mr. Williams spoke about how we all have the power to be a leader and not a follower and to help others. Words and exclusion hurt, and everyone has the right to feel included and valued. He engaged students to think hard about how our words impact others and told them a few anecdotes about real people who have faced bullying and other challenges.

Fairview Elementary

Lots of things to get excited for at FES! This Saturday, December 5, is our breakfast with Santa. Come to FES from 8-10:30 a.m. and enjoy good food and company. There will be a performance by the FES choir at 9:30 a.m. Kids will also have a chance to shop in a Santa store for their parents and get their pictures taken with Santa. Come by for a great time. Our fifth graders are also getting ready to head to Biztown next week. They have their jobs and are ready to rise to the occasion to have fun and learn!

Grassland Elementary

Jim Williams met with our fourth and fifth grade students on Bullying Prevention and related topics on December 2, 3 and 4. A heartfelt thanks to GSCA for funding this amazing and educational informative sessions with Jim Williams, a nationally acclaimed author and speaker. Geography Bee takes place on December 9. Thanks to Mrs. Kannon for coordinating this event with our fourth and fifth grade teachers.

Hunters Bend Elementary

The Monster Book Fair was a huge success! During the week, the students were able to vote via donation for the group of HBES employees who would be “slimed.” The teams consisted of Mr. Henry/Ms. Pisha and Mr. Walker/Ms. Smallwood. In the end, Mr. Walker and Ms. Smallwood were the lucky staff to receive the slime.

Longview Elementary

Longview Elementary kicked off the month of December by celebrating Fire Safety Week with a visit from Spring Hill Fire Department. Students in grades K-2 were able to learn and practice how to move through a house and find safe fire escape routes with the help of our local firefighters.

Nolensville Elementary

Fourth grade students in Emily Gore’s class at Nolensville Elementary moved critters (millipedes, crabs, and frogs) to their habitats this week as part of their latest science unit.

Scales Elementary

Grandparent Day was a huge success at Scales Elementary November 20. Grandparents toured classrooms, visited the Book Fair and were entertained by the third grade musical program.

Walnut Grove Elementary

Walnut Grove kindergartners are learning about other countries and cultures around the world. A good way to learn about customs and traditions is to have them explore their own family histories. In social studies, students are presenting their “Family Heritage Projects” to the class. Students have worked with their parents to learn where their ancestors came from and then traced their ancestors’ journey from their country of origin to the United States on a map. Integrating this social studies unit with writing and math, our kindergartners wrote a complete sentence about their ancestors’ countries using capital letters, spaces between words and punctuation. Then they applied their knowledge to create a graph of the different countries their ancestors came from.

Westwood Elementary

Second graders at Westwood Elementary are learning to subtract two digit numbers using various strategies. They are expected to draw a model, write an equation and explain their thinking.

Winstead Elementary

Winstead students collected an impressive 1,675 pounds of food for Graceworks Ministries, which was counted and sorted by the fifth grade Student Council. Thank you to all the families for your support. Third graders enjoyed a visit from Rotary Club members on Wednesday. Each student received a personalized dictionary to use at school or take home. Rotary members challenged students to find new words, locate specific places on maps, and reviewed information on the three branches of government which they are learning about in social studies.

Middle Schools

Brentwood Middle

Team Enterprise science and social studies classes are studying Egypt, specifically the mummification process and the construction of pyramids. Students in Kristi Coble’s class are mummifying chickens they affectionately named Dr. Bwk Bwk Barkley, Hayes Hen and Mr. LoudHen while Beth Johnson’s class constructed pyramids in which the mummies would live.

Grassland Middle

Mrs. Higgins’ art classes are eagerly working on a winter wonderland scene. One hundred percent of the materials used in this project have been reclaimed or recycled. Way to show your green, big blue! GMS band students completed a very competitive audition process last Saturday and the following students were selected to attend the MTSBOA Mid State Band weekend event: Evan Cameron, percussion 2nd alternate; Eileen Hsu, oboe 3rd chair Gold Band; Will Stockdale, clarinet 13th chair Gold Band; Trevor Zou, baritone 2nd chair Gold Band. The Grassland Middle School Spirit Wear and Holiday Sale will be December 17 from 7 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. GMS parents are welcome to shop during that time. The general public will be welcome to shop from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m.

Heritage Middle

It’s the most wonderful time of the year at Heritage Middle: book fair time!

Spring Station Middle

The Holiday Station Marketplace is THIS Saturday from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. We hope you can all make it and get your shopping done. We have great food, live music, door prizes and Santa. You will see that we have almost 100 vendors ready to help you with your shopping lists.

Sunset Middle

The sixth grade science classes at Sunset Middle are studying density as it relates to weather and convection cells. This experiment was an opportunity for the students to see that the colored solutions layered and then determine why (they layered because the salt solutions had different densities).

Woodland Middle

Congratulations to to all of the Woodland Middle School students who were selected to represent WMS in the All-Mid-State Honor Orchestra and Band.

High Schools

Brentwood High

Pre-Calculus instructor Christie Feiler was named BHS Teacher of the Year. Athletics Department Secretary Melissa Gerlach was named BHS Employee of the Year. In other news, the BHS Choir will present a holiday concert on December 8 at 7 p.m. in the BPAC. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased from any member of choir. Centennial High

The Centennial Chamber Choir will be performing a Vocal Music Holiday Concert on Saturday, December 12 at 7 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. Tickets will be $10 and the proceeds will go toward the choir’s film scoring workshop trip to Disney. Congratulations to Javid Bay named Mr. CHS 2015 on November 19. Eight young men competed for the title by showcasing such talents as riding a tricycle, telling jokes, solving a rubix cube in under a minute, hula hooping while blowing bubbles and several dance routines. They performed in front of a sell-out crowd to raise money for Habitat for Humanity. Congrats to the CHS Competition Cheer squad on being named 2015 TSSAA State Champions, Large Varsity Division. Students on the squad are Avery Anderson, Ally Beard, Emma Kate Best, Brooklynn Biles, Katelyn Denno, Harly Dwyer, Audrey Eisner, Elli Helmintoller, Caroline Jones, Abbey Jordan, Madison Lawrence, Caroline Manning, Shelby Mathews, Faith Parks, Cassetty Parrish, Lily Shelton, Mackenzie Simpson, Ashton Smith, Anne Tenkhoff and Lauren Wilkinson.

Franklin High

The Franklin High Chorus will present its annual Madrigral Dinner and Musical Showcase December 11 and 12 at 6 p.m. There will be a full dinner and show for $25 per person; tickets for a gallery seat are desserts are $10 each. Contact cynthiaf@wcs.edu for tickets.

Page High

The Transition teacher in Student Support Services , Alyssa Greenstein and the para professionals Kelly Davis and Dan Harkins want you to know the Transition II class has been working hard on beautiful hand-made Christmas cards. They will be selling them the last week before our Holiday break. You may contact the class by calling the school or e-mailing the teachers. Smiles 4 Kids Club would like you to join us in “Warmth for Winter” by bringing hats, scarves, gloves, mittens and socks for homeless men, women, and children. Please bring them to the main office by Thursday, Dec. 17th. They will be delivered to Nashville homeless shelters.

Ravenwood High

Good luck to the Ravenwood High football team as they face Maryville Saturday for the state championship. Also, RHS would like to recognize Crews Holt for being named the Mr. Tennessee Football Kicker of the Year. In other news, the Ravenwood Fine Arts Department will hold the following winter concerts: December 3 – Orchestra, December 8 – Choir and December 10 – Band. All programs begin at 7 p.m. in the RPAC.

Summit High

Congratulations to John Carter for being the first in Summit’s History to score 1,000 points! He scored his 1,000th point in the first half of Tuesday night’s game against Lawrence County. The Spartans defeated Lawrence County 71-54.
