The information below is provided by each school. Schools are listed in alphabetical order according to grade level.
Elementary Schools

Bethesda Elementary

Fifth grade teacher Mrs. Cindy Lewis worked with math students to teach them different math strategies. The students are working on math problems with mixed fractions.

Clovercroft Elementary

On Thursday, December 17, all Clovercroft students will participate in International Day. The day will begin with an assembly where students will present songs and dances from countries such as Ireland, Japan, India and Singapore. Throughout the day, several Clovercroft parents will teach the students about the customs and cultures of Japan, France, Mexico, Singapore, Switzerland, India and Norway.

Crockett Elementary

Crockett Elementary School voted Lynne Ragsag Classified Employee of the year. Mrs. Ragsag has worked at Crockett for 3 ½ years as a Special Education Teacher Assistant. In other news, Crockett is still accepting laundry detergent for the Ronald McDonald house. In addition, tickets for Crockett Rocks, an intimate VIP concert on January 19 with Lee Brice, are being sold. Please visit, www.crockettrocks.com for details. In upcoming events: Crockett Chick-fil-a Spirit Night will be held on December 14, the Crockett Chorus will have their winter concert on December 17, and class Winter Parties will be held on December 18.

Edmondson Elementary

The Mayor of Brentwood, Regina Smithson visited the third graders at Edmondson Elementary today. She was joined by former Mayor Betsy Crossley and Vice Mayor Jill Burgin. The students are studying a unit on government. The guests spoke to the students about local government. The students asked them some great questions.

Fairview Elementary

It’s skating time at FES! All students get to skate in gym class the whole month of December. They learn how to stand up, fall down, use crossovers, and even to skate backwards! Students are having a great time and every time they go to the gym they get better. The international lunch club also celebrated their third country/place this week and visited the north pole. Students had to create a project to attend, but with their invitation they were able to sample cuisine and learn all about what it’s like way up north. So much fun!

Grassland Elementary

Grassland Elementary Student Services teacher Lori DuFrain received Channel 2’s Educator of the Week Award on December 4. An Evening for the Arts featuring the GES Art Extravaganza, first grade musical program, and GES Chorus/Drama was held on December 10. Student’s gallery framed art was on display and available for purchase. All were invited to the first grade’s musical “Flakes” in the gym from 6:30-7:00pm. Also featured was our own GES Chorus under the direction of Mrs. Christy Summey.

Heritage Elementary

Heritage Elementary is so proud of our Teacher of the Year and Classified Employee of the Year. Congratulations to first grade teacher Christina Woods and Pat Miller of Student Support Services. We are so happy for you!

Hunters Bend Elementary

Mrs. Paris’s fourth grade class hosted Mr. Electricity. The kids enjoyed learning about transferring and bottling energy of different forms. Additionally, our second graders have been busy working on coding skills using laptops and the Minecraft game. The HBES Student Council collected new, unwrapped toys, clothing and school supplies for the Salvation Army Forgotten Angel Project. Our goal was 800 items and we met it! The truck arrived on Thursday to pick up the collection and the kids helped load it up.

Kenrose Elementary

Congratulations to all Kenrose Elementary School students who participated in the Mini Mu math competition on Saturday December 5. Of our 24 students, 11 placed in the top 20 on at least one of the assessments. Also, a thank you to Kelly Griffor, Carley Bradford, Traci Wood and Brandi Smith for helping the students prepare for the competition!

Lipscomb Elementary

Congratulations to Lipscomb Elementary’s Teacher of the Year Mary Beth Carroll and LES Classified Employee of the Year Linda Reynolds. In other news, Assistant Principal, Carol Cortez played beautiful music for the teachers and staff at LES during their holiday breakfast on Monday, December 7.

Longview Elementary

A total of 26 fourth and fifth grade Longview students participated in the Mini Mu Math Competition Saturday December 5. Brentwood High School’s Math Honor Society sponsored the event. Longview students were led by their very own Gifted Education Teacher, Michelle Johnston who was accompanied by adult supervisor and parent Susan Perry. Ten practice sessions were held after school for an hour before the competition. All our students showed commitment and dedication throughout. Longview students Matthew Metlitsky and Jack McCarty placed in the top 20 overall. Superb job everyone!

Nolensville Elementary

Students in second and third grade performed Jingle Bell Jukebox. Music teachers Shelley Exler and Hannah Kuchar worked for several weeks preparing students for the performance. The stage was set with a beautifully painted juke box by art teacher, Katie Boothe, and an authentic 50’s dining set on loan from the Bates family. Numerous parent volunteers assisted with other decorations. Costumes consisted of poodle skirts, saddle oxfords, cuffed blue jeans, white t-shirts and leather jackets setting the mood for a fantastic 50’s themed program.

Oak View Elementary

Our Classified employee of the year is Dana Graveno. Our Teacher of the year is Elizabeth Puryear. Congratulations! Oak View is enjoying the book fair this week! Our kids love to see all the exciting things that are available to them this year.

Pearre Creek Elementary

This holiday season, the Panthers Care Club at Pearre Creek Elementary sponsored a bike and toy drive to benefit the Graceworks Manger Project. Over 3,300 families registered for this program last year to assist them in shopping for the holidays. The Panther Care Club hung a wall of angels in the main hallway. Families took an angel, bought a gift and put their child’s name and teacher’s name on the gift. Over 58 bikes and scooters were donated to Graceworks, along with many toys.

Scales Elementary

Scales Elementary had 30 fourth and fifth grade students compete in the Mini Mu Math Competition. There were over 400 students who competed and we had four students medal: Jesse Cai, Libby Windley, Phillip Hyams and Paul Williams.

Sunset Elementary

A group of fourth and fifth graders competed in the sixth annual Brentwood High School Mini Mu competition. The test questions revolved around the theme of Star Wars.

Trinity Elementary

Often described as Simple…Crazy…Fun, the Patch Fitness Obstacle Course will help you all in love with working out again. Designed to get you moving in ways that you normally don’t, you’ll start to feel the beneficial effects within just a few minutes of being on The Patch. You’ll be breathing heavier, your heart rate will rise and you’ll feel muscles working that haven’t worked in a long time. Through the Egoscue Foundation, donations of The Patch have been made to schools and non-profits all over the world to fight chronic sitting, obesity and disease in our younger generation. The Patch at Trinity Elementary was donated by John Elder of the Egoscue Method Nashville, located in Cool Springs. Egoscue is the world leader in non-medical pain relief, focusing on exercises and stretches that realign the body to eliminate pain and erase limitations. The Patch is the perfect tool to reintroduce proper range of motion to the joints of the body through functional fitness.

Walnut Grove Elementary

Congratulations to all fourth and fifth graders from Walnut Grove who competed in a Mini Mu Mathematics Competition at Brentwood High School. This math event is sponsored by the BHS Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society for the purpose of inspiring students interests in math and promoting the enjoyment of math in younger grades. This year’s theme was Star Wars. The competition consisted of two challenging rounds of individual tests without the use of calculators. High school students in the math honor society wrote, proctored, and graded the test as well as planned the activities for the day. The following students received awards: 1st Test 4th Grade: 13th Place-Davis Long, 2nd Test 4th Grade: 17th Place-Davis Long, 2nd Test 4th Grade: 6th Place-Jonathan Zink and 2nd Test 5th Grade: 15th Place-Reilly Cate Ferguson.

Westwood Elementary

First graders are learning about place value of tens and ones by using manipulatives to build numbers.

Winstead Elementary

On December 5, 30 Winstead students competed with 400 other WCS students in the Mini-Mu Math Competition at BHS. Winstead students did a tremendous job, bringing home seven medals. Weston Regan placed first in fourth grade. Congratulations to all our winners and all who participated!

Middle Schools

Brentwood Middle

Brentwood Middle Schools sixth grade math team competed in the Montgomery Bell Academy Invitational Math Competition and took home first place in both team and individual competition with Sally Choi winning first. Team members include Sally Choi (first place), Carissa Shuxteau (third place) and Max Aulino (sixth). The math team is coached by teacher Ms. Erin McGill.

Grassland Middle

The GMS Holiday Book Fair is underway and Mrs. Giles’ sixth graders were eager to purchase books and holiday merchandise. A BIG BLUE thank you to parents and students for supporting your GMS middle school library and helping us promote the importance of reading. GMS Drive for Troops will be December 8-18. We have a wonderful opportunity to collect items for family members from our GMS community who are currently deployed. We are collecting items at GMS and we encourage you to include a personalized card with your donation. Needed items include: Bags of candy (no chocolate please), individual sized healthy snacks and playing cards.

Heritage Middle

Heritage Middle School seventh grade Advanced Art students create ceramic plates with representations of their favorite food.

Page Middle

Page Middle School was host to author, Joelle Charbonneau on Thursday, December 3. She talked to the students about the trials, failures and successes of her writing career and encouraged them to follow their dreams and passions. Ms. Charbonneau also signed books at the book fair, also held last week. Page Middle School is also proud to announce our Teacher of the Year is Elaine Capella and the Certified Employee of the Year is Carol Cajka.

Sunset Middle

The Sunset Middle Dance Team competed at the Smoky Mountain Christmas Championship December 4-5 and won second Overall School Team for Pom, third Overall School Team for Jazz, and received an Outstanding Choreography Award for Jazz Routine. This was the teams first UDA Competition and a huge accomplishment. Perseverance was the character focus for the month of November. Our teachers selected a boy and girl from each grade level that personifies this unique trait. Those nominated were Maymie Guthrie, Gray Howell, Alex Scruggs, Sydney Hummel, Caitlin Mayes and Triston Bryan. Congrats to these well deserving students.

Woodland Middle

The sixth grade Shawnee Team recently visited to the Country Music Hall of Fame.

High Schools

Brentwood High

Join the BHS wrestling team for their annual fundraiser Shoes Off the Mat Sale this Saturday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. in the BHS cafeteria. Brand new women’s, men’s and children’s clothing, shoes and apparel will be sold at a discounted price.

Centennial High

Please congratulate the following Centennial students on being selected for the Southern Division Honor Choirs of the American Choral Directors Association: McKenzie Garey, Joe Wandass, Jordan Mackey, Cassie Trabucco, Addie Pollard and Emma Messer. The Southern Division conference will be held March 9-12, 2016 in Chattanooga, TN. Come out and enjoy some beautiful holiday music performed by the CHS Choral department on Saturday December 12 in the Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m. Tickets at the door will be $10 and the proceeds will go to benefit the Chamber Choir film scoring workshop trip in February.

Franklin High

Chorus presents their annual Madrigal Dinner and Musical Showcase on December 11 and 12 at 6 p.m. Full dinner and show is $25 per person and gallery seat with desserts is $10 per person. To take AP exams in May (for possible college credit), registration and at least half payment must be submitted no mater than January 27. In sports news, the Franklin High wrestling team competed in the Fall Braw this past Saturday and placed fourth out of 15 schools. Franklin had two champions, one runner-up, three second place and two fourth place finishes. And congratulations to the following Franklin Football players for making the All-Region 6A team: Kyle Evans, Lannom Craddock, Teshawn Jenkins, Mitch Rossi, Caden Williams and Connor Palk. The following were honorable mentions: Eric Sirface, Zach Polisky, Alex Gaca and Ben McLendon.

Page High

Theatre IV students are directing Theatre II students in The Best Christmas Pageant Ever and the tech crews are Theatre III students. The show is December 10 at 7 p.m. Admission is FREE and Santa will be here for pictures beginning at 6:30 p.m. First semester exams will be given beginning Tuesday, December 15 through Friday, December 18. All students must have the Principal’s authorization to take exams at a later date or make them up due to missed exams. Per Board Policy, no exams will be given early. Once a student is in an exam period they will not be dismissed until that class is over.

Summit High

The Wrestling season is off to a great start! On December 5, the wrestling team won the Mt. Juliet Duals defeating Lebanon, Page, Riverdale and Rossview. The team’s first home match of the season was on December 8 vand they defeated Hillsboro 66-12 and Hendersonville 63-21.
