The information below is provided by each school. Schools are listed in alphabetical order according to grade level.

Elementary Schools

Allendale Elementary

On Friday, Allendale first grade teachers and students celebrated Disney Day as part of their PBIS reward. There were many Star Wars characters, Disney princesses and even Snow White made an appearance. A great reward for a job well-done.

Bethesda Elementary

Bethesda Elementary School is pleased to announce our fourth grade 4-H demonstration winners. RuthAnn Johns won first place in swine, Kelsey Shand finished first in line and design, Abigail Lambert placed first in clothing, Meredith Lay won first place for animals, Margaret Adams finished first in horses and Lillian Lawrence placed second for poultry. All of these students went to Franklin High School on Monday, April 18 to the demonstration contest. All of these students will advance to the area contest on May 12 at the Williamson County Agriculture Center for being in first and second place. We are very proud of all our students and their hard work put into their wonderful demonstrations.

College Grove Elementary

College Grove recently kicked off its annual Rocket Run. The students enjoyed seeing the teachers busting through the banner. We had some College Grove Rocket cheerleaders cheering everyone on. Our students were pumped for the Rocket Run to start.

Crockett Elementary

Crockett celebrates its 25th anniversary this year! Everyone is invited to our Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, April 30 from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. Feel free to drop in anytime to roam the halls, share your favorite CES memories and enjoy cake and refreshments. The Crockett Chorus will be performing some special songs from the ’90s that will surely take us back to when the school’s doors first opened. Spread the word to your Woodland and Ravenwood friends that have moved on from Crockett too. In other news, the second grade classes enjoyed learning about life in the 1800’s by visiting the Boiling Spring Academy. Additionally, the first grade music program was a huge success under the guidance of Wydell Croom.

Edmondson Elementary

The Leadership Council at Edmondson Elementary recently held a Paper Drive for Hospital Hospitality House (HHH) of Nashville. The students collected donations of packaged paper towels, paper cups and toilet paper. The HHH provides lodging, meals and other supportive services for various waiting rooms in area hospitals and clinics, stocking them with snacks, water, toiletries and other necessities for patients and children.
Fairview Elementary

Fairview Elementary held its family carnival April 17. The weather was beautiful and the turnout was great! Some of our enrichment clubs performed throughout the day, and they were a delight. Second graders were busy this week preparing for their music program which was performed on April 21 for parents. The school was able to enjoy it at as well as they performed it for community meeting on Friday, April 22.

Grassland Elementary School

As an introduction to their science unit on the water cycle, WSMV Meteorologist Dan Thomas visited the first and second grades Monday. He discussed the water cycle, weather and weather safety. TNReady testing for all third, fourth and fifth graders is scheduled for April 28-29 and May 2-3. Thank you for respecting the school-wide schedule for testing. It’s essential for your child to be well-rested, eat a healthy breakfast and arrive promptly to school. Testing begins immediately following arrival at 8:35 a.m.

Hillsboro School

First grade students at Hillsboro School have enjoyed studying about plants and what they need to grow.

Hunters Bend Elementary

The second graders at Hunters Bend have been hard at work researching and learning about different people in history. On Monday, they invited the school to attend their living wax museum. The second graders lined the hallway and posed as a well-known person in history all the while answering questions about themselves from their peers.
Kenrose Elementary

Kenrose celebrates Robin Severance, our 2015-16 Shining Apple Volunteer Award winner. We appreciate everything Robin does for Kenrose and our students. Congratulations Kenrose for winning the Preds NHL 2016 Pep Rally Contest for the first round of the playoffs. Go Preds!

Oak View Elementary

Several fourth graders at Oak View placed in the county competition at Franklin High School this week for the 4-H demonstration speech. Several of them will move on to the regional competition on May 12. This year, the competition will be hosted by Williamson County and will be held at the Williamson County Ag Center.

Pearre Creek Elementary

Denine Fields’ kindergarten class is studying natural resources. They learned that things from nature can be used to make new things. The students made homemade applesauce by cutting and mashing apples. First graders at Pearre Creek have been learning about producers, consumers, goods, services and careers. Parents have been speaking with the students about their careers over the last few weeks. They have learned about marketing and advertising of products as well as how products are produced and distributed. The students have loved learning about these different jobs.

Scales Elementary

The first grade had their annual Business Day with many entrepreneurs. There were pet rocks with a house, massages, all kinds of baked goods and jewelry.

Walnut Grove Elementary

In their last month of elementary school, Walnut Grove’s fifth graders have been working hard on becoming more focused on developing and refining their academic skills in preparation for middle school. This week in language arts, they are concentrating on reading nonfiction short articles. They are learning to analyze what the author’s point of view is and support their ideas using text evidence. Students develop strong organizational skills in writing as they learn to respond to various texts they read using a graphic organizer. This helps them to develop a detailed essay. Fifth graders are strengthening their math skills in all operations, focusing on converting measurement units, interpreting data and graphing points on a coordinate plane.

Winstead Elementary

Winstead first grade classes went on a field trip to Gentry’s Farm. The children explored the farm learning about corn, planting wheat, architecture, map skills and Gentry’s Farm cows while on a hay ride. Year after year, this is one of the first graders’ favorite trips. In Coach Whipple and Coach McTee P.E. classes students are excited about skating.

Middle Schools

Page Middle

In Mrs. Jones sixth grade class, the students constructed series circuits and parallel circuits. They experimented with electric currents and with materials that can conduct electricity. many students got creative and made some very complex circuits and they all enjoyed the hands-on learning.

Woodland Middle

Several students from Woodland Middle recently competed in the annual Science Olympiad contest in Knoxville. Ashwin Jain, Samarth Sharma, Mithul Nallaka and Joshua Mi took part in the Air Trajectory competition.

High Schools

Brentwood High

Congratulations to Brentwood High students Shreyas Kumar and Sam Dowd who qualified on Saturday for the Senator John C. Stennis National Congressional Debate competition. Shreyas placed first in House 1 and Sam placed first in House 2. They will join Andrew Brown in Salt Lake City on June 11-18 for the National Speech and Debate Tournament. Andrew placed second in U.S. Extemporaneous Speaking at the TN NSDA Events National Qualifiers in March. Also on Saturday, Harry Westbrook placed second in House 2 and is the first alternate for National Congress. Aditya Pillai placed third in House 2 and is the second alternate to nationals. Craig Martin and Deepak Sundaramoorthy were elected to serve as presiding officers in House 1, and Aditya Pillai was elected to serve as a presiding officer in House 2. BHS won the NSDA Congress sweepstakes and the Lamar Alexander Cup for the Superior Delegation at the Tennessee National Qualifying Congress for the fifth year in a row. Twenty members of the BHS Forensic Team will compete in the Tennessee High School Speech and Drama League State Tournament on Friday and Saturday at Walters State Community College in Morristown.

Centennial High

More than 2,000 students competed to represent Tennessee at FBLA Nationals this summer. Please congratulate the following students for their outstanding performance at FBLA State Conference as they have qualified for Nationals being held in Atlanta this summer: Ian Johnson, Colton Carnahan, Tony Wall, Bradley Walker and Nicole Zeller. Centennial’s prom will be Saturday evening, April 23, at the Williamson County Expo Center on Long Lane. Senior presentations will be at 7 p.m. It will be an Enchanted Evening for sure. CHS will host a Volunteer Appreciation Brunch on Wednesday, April 27 in the Front Lobby between 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. We want to take this opportunity to let all of our incredible volunteers know just how much we appreciate their tireless work for the success of CHS. Please stop by and let us say thanks.

Page High

Page High celebrated its 20th Science Fair at school April 20 by filling up the wellness gym with over 80 exhibitions. Students were allowed to choose the area of science that they have the most interest in, from advanced physics through biology. The exhibits were so intriguing they had many students, parents and faculty members impressed with their ingenuity. A few examples shown were super conductivity, gaussian rifles, electromagnetic pulse jammers and a vortex cannon shooting fog rings across the gym. John Paquet is the teacher of these physics students. PHS Awards Night will be held Tuesday, April 26 at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium. TNReady testing will be Thursday, April 28 for English and Friday, April 29 for math.

Summit High

This past weekend, thirteen Summit High school students participated in the YMCA’s Youth in Government conference at the Tennessee State Capitol. Students presented their bills to their subcommittees on Thursday. Three bills earned high ranking and made their respective dockets for debate. Will Baumgart and Drew Griffus’s bill to promote the intellectual cultivation of substandard performing districts within Tennessee was received the highest ranking in their committee which placed them second on the docket! Unfortunately, the bill failed in the Red Senate by a slim margin. Kellie Veltri’s bill to mandate paid maternity leave passed in the Red Senate but did not have time to be presented in the Red House. Anupam Gopinadham and Maggie Albert’s bill to mandate a civil holiday on federal election days also made the Blue House docket but did not have time to present. Several Summit students also presented their bills in committee. Julia Hawkins, Harper Marshall, and Andi Mitchell submitted a bill to require changing tables in all Tennessee bathrooms. Clay Napier, Abrahim Marquez, and Stephen Robinson submitted a bill to rehabilitate prisoners in Tennessee prisons. Summit also had several other students participate in the conference. Rielly Bethmann served as Solicitor General, Kellie Veltri served as Sergeant at Arms of the Red House and Caitlyn Mulcahey served as a lobbyist for the education firm. Summit represented themselves well over the weekend and won several awards. Caitlyn Mulcahey was selected as Outstanding Lobbyists and Kellie Veltri was selected as an alternate for the national Youth in Government conference. All awards were voted on by a teacher committee that recognized students with superior character and decorum. Overall, Summit had a very successful weekend.
