The information below is provided by each school. Schools are listed in alphabetical order according to grade level.
Elementary Schools
Allendale Elementary
Allendale third, fourth and fifth grade students have been learning to roller skate during their P.E. class. The students are learning safety techniques, balance and coordination. When asked what was the most difficult part of roller skating, students from Ms. Allen and Mr. Baber’s fifth grade classes all agreed stopping was the most difficult. The students will continue skating until April 22.
Bethesda Elementary
Sophie Uhrine, a first grade student in Mrs. Lisa Hardin’s class is proud of her writing skills. The students write in their journals every morning. Sophie usually writes two or three different stories a day. Mrs. Hardin’s students love to write. Journal time is a fun time of each day and it helps the children to write complete sentences, stay on topic, using their capitol letters, punctuation and work on their spelling.
Clovercroft Elementary
Clovercroft’s kindergarten students will perform E-I-E-I Oops on Thursday, April 21 at 6 p.m. The musical will lead you on a trip to see Farmer MacDonald and the whole barnyard of singing animals. But, something’s wrong with Madame Cow… she just can’t moo. Join the fun as the chicks, pigs and sheep do their part to save the day.
College Grove Elementary
This week, the College Grove kindergarten students presented their version of the musical E-I-E-I Oops!
Crockett Elementary
It’s been another busy week at Crockett Elementary. Third grade students went on a field trip to the Adventure Science Center where they learned about extreme weather and space. Several second grade classes visited the Boiling Springs Academy and learned about school life in the 1800’s. The remaining second grade classes will visit the academy next week. The Volunteer State Book Award Voting Party took place before school on Friday. Third-fifth grade students who read at least three VSBA books from the intermediate list were able to attend the voting party where they were able to vote for their favorite book and enjoy refreshments. In other news, the kindergarten hallways were filled with new faces for our Kindergarten Sneak a Peek. Incoming kindergartners were able to visit in kindergarten classrooms while their parents were informed of what to expect during the upcoming year.
Edmondson Elementary
The Edmondson Elementary PTO is hosting the Spring Book Fair this week. Each student has the opportunity to come with their homeroom class. The book fair is held in the EES Library and is open from 8:10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Donuts with Dad or other special person is a very popular event held on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings before school. Thursday evening is Family Night and the fair will remain open until 7 p.m. Teachers and students alike enjoy this great opportunity to purchase new books. The book fair ends on Friday, April 15 at noon.
Fairview Elementary
We are celebrating the amazing job the Fairview Elementary School Chorus did at the Williamson County Fine Arts Festival on Saturday. They blew us away with their performance. A huge shout out to Mr. Bell for preparing them so well and putting forth so much effort into making them shine. FES is also getting excited for our school carnival. It will take place Sunday, April 17 from noon until 4 p.m. There will be food, games, prizes and so much more! Every class will have a booth for people to visit. There will also be performances from the enrichment clubs happening throughout the day. It will be a great time so be sure to come out! Be sure to also mark your calendars for our second grade music program. It will be performed for parents on Thursday, April 21 at 8:30 a.m.
Heritage Elementary
Heritage Elementary invites you to register for the Spring Hill Kids Marathon Color Chaos. Grades K-5 can participate. Registration is $15 and includes a T-shirt, Color Packet and Medal! Go to www.shkidsmarathon.com for more information. Teacher Appreciation Week will be held April 18-22. The HES kindergarten music program is coming up on Thursday, April 21 at 6 p.m.
Hillsboro School
This week at Hillsboro, second graders have been working on a research project of famous Americans.
Kenrose Elementary
Kenrose’s second grade recently had their musical performance singing songs about America.
Nolensville Elementary
Third, fourth and fifth grade students are having fun learning how to use the library by dining and working in the NES Dewey Cafe. Customers will be ordering meals (subjects) from the menu, waiters and chefs will be preparing and delivering the meal (looking up the subject in our online catalog, finding the book, and delivering it to the customer), and bus people will be cleaning the tables and delivering the meal back to the kitchen (re-shelving).
Oak View Elementary
Our fourth graders at Oak View have been learning about electricity. This week, they have been building circuits and experimenting with conductors and insulators.
Pearre Creek Elementary
Pearre Creek’s Groovy Book Fair opened this week and will continue through April 22. Students were given the opportunity to dress up this week. Tuesday was tie-dyed day, Wednesday was wear something fancy, Thursday was favorite sports team day, and Friday was school spirit day. Family night is Thursday, April 21 from 3:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. A fun night is planned filled with food trucks, face painting and a balloon artist. Family and friends are encouraged to come shop the Book Fair and take place in all the fun events.
Scales Elementary
At the State Destination Imagination Tournament this past Saturday at Lipscomb University, two teams from Scales qualified to advance to the Global Finals at UT in Knoxville, TN. The Destination Imagination Complications team placed first and The Shining Six Company placed second.
Walnut Grove Elementary
Walnut Grove is preparing for its spring carnival. The “Grizzly Olympic Games” will be held Friday, April 15. During the winter months, our student ambassadors and fifth grade classes worked on different ideas and came to a consensus on an Olympic carnival theme. Once this theme was chosen, our student ambassadors formed committees and researched carnival games, decorations and cakewalk ideas. Last month, the student ambassadors presented their ideas to the Walnut Grove PTA and together they made plans to make selected ideas a reality. Our student ambassadors and fifth graders were taught skills in critical thinking, communication, collaboration and creativity, which empowered them to make a difference and have a positive impact at Walnut Grove.
Winstead Elementary
Winstead kindergartners have been studying the cycle of the seasons in their classrooms. Under the direction of our music teacher Mallory Yerger, students performed a program called “Celebrate the Seasons.” Students sang a song for every season and performed dance routines using scarves, umbrellas, and flowers correlating with specific seasons. Winstead staff would like to thank all our parents and students for a wonderful teacher appreciation week.
Middle Schools
Brentwood Middle
Beth Johnson’s sixth grade science group at Brentwood Middle is building simple series and parallel circuits.
Grassland Middle
Mr. Oldham’s class recently explored Google Expeditions Pioneer Program and traveled the world in just a few minutes. The GMS Strings Performance will be held Tuesday, April 26 at 6:30 p.m. in the gym. The 8th Grade Recognition ceremony will take place on May 18 at 8:30 a.m. in the GMS Gymnasium. Congratulations to GMS Mathletes! Our seventh grade math team that placed second at the state competition at MTSU last week. The team is made up of Eileen Hsu, Jacob Myers, Joshua Whitehead and Deke DeBardelaben. Individual awards were won by Eileen (2nd place), Jacob (8th place) and Josh (14th place). Congratulations also go out to the eighth grade math team that placed third at the state competition at MTSU last week. The team is made up of David Xu, Will Stockdale, Nic Grummon and Maria Sanchez. Individual awards were won by David (6th place), Will (12th place), and Nic (13th place). Great showing by the Generals!
Page Middle
April 12 was National Drop Everything And Read Day. Students at Page Middle School celebrated National D.E.A.R. Day by taking a short break from their normal activities during their Flex time to read a book of their choice. Students stopped by the library throughout the day to check out books to read for the occasion and shared books with each other. Mrs. Kimberly Willingham read the award-winning book, Wonder, aloud to her class. Last Thursday, the school’s Read-It-Forward program came to a close with a Skype visit from author, Kwame Alexander, who wrote last year’s Newbery Award-winning novel, The Crossover. Students passed the book along to each other as they finished reading it and received a candy bar and entered their names in the drawing to attend the Skype visit with Mr. Alexander. Students asked Mr. Alexander many thought-provoking questions during the Skype and had a great time connecting with both the book, and it’s author.
Sunset Middle
Nineteen Sunset Middle School students competed April 7, at the Austin Peay Math Contest alongside hundreds of middle schoolers from all over Middle Tennessee. Sunset Middle students won the following awards: 6th grade team- 1st place overall, 7th grade team- 4th place overall, and 8th grade team- 1st place overall. Jacqueline Montileone was the math team’s coach. In other news, Sunset Middle student Joel Barnes competed in the Individual Website category for the Tennessee National History Day State Competition – junior division. His website entry placed third out of 10 competitors, which means if the first or second place winners are unable to attend the national competition, he will have the opportunity to compete this summer at the University of Maryland.
Woodland Middle
Congratulations to Woodland Middle School’s April Students of the Month: Sam Fitch, Carter Galbreath, Iori Nagatani, Lauren Napierkowski, Elizabeth Hatton, Jared Dendekker and Helen Johnson.
High Schools
Brentwood High
Nana’s Niche and True Blue Apparel won second and third place respectively in the Middle Tennessee Junior Achievement Company Program This year, all three entrepreneurship classes at Brentwood High participated in this program where each class organized, started and managed a company. Only one point separated first and second place and only two points separated second and third. This is the first year BHS has participated in the JA company program. Each company was scored in four categories of competition: written business plan, commercial, trade fair booth, and presentation. Nana’s Niche sold cookbooks (and scrub daddy bundles), True Blue sold high quality Brentwood Apparel, and the third company, Brentwood Ice, sold frosty fruit slushies. While Brentwood Ice did not place in the top three, they still represented our school very well.
Centennial High
Congratulations to the CHS Clay Target Shooting Team for their participation in the upcoming TN Junior Olympic Trap Event. The Junior Olympics is a National Competition that is sponsored by USA Shooting and it is the development Pipeline for the Olympic Shooting Program. The contest the CHS team is competing in is one of several regional competitions to determine who qualifies to go to the National Competition and become part of the National Junior Olympic Team. Competing for Centennial will be David LeCates, Sydney Smith, Taylor Pate and Kaitlin Mills. David and Sydney have been with the team since it began in January of 2015. David shoots American Trap, American Skeet, Sporting Clays, Wobble Trap, International Skeet and International Bunker. Sydney shoots American Trap, American Skeet and Sporting Clays. Taylor and Kaitlin are new to the team this year and shoot American Trap and Sporting Clays. This will be the first Junior Olympic Competition for all four of the athletes.
Franklin High
The Franklin High School Science Olympiad Team competed at the State Competition at the University of Tennessee Knoxville. Our team was comprised of Abdul Aleryani, Rachel Cohen, Raphael Fortuna, Jonah Herman, Ryan Hogan, Sarah Li, Joshua Lim, Justin Ma, Nicholas Ma, Sophie Matthews, Kat Olson, Stephen Quiton, Meera Unni and Matthew Wells. They competed in 23 different events against 21 other high schools from the state of Tennessee. Each event awarded medals for the top 6 team scores. Our team was successful and received multiple medals in different events. The medal recipients were: Rachel Cohen, Stephen Quiton, Abdul Aleryani and Nicholas Ma.
Page High
Important upcoming dates to add to your calendar include the last two power Monday’s, April 18 and April 25. There are no Power Monday’s in the month of May. On Tuesday, April 19, all juniors will be taking the ACT, freshmen and sophomores will be taking the practice ACT, and seniors will be on a shadowing or college visit day. On Wednesday, April 20, the Science Fair will be held in the wellness gym. Dance team try-out’s will be held April 20-22 from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. and try-out packets may be picked up in the office. Awards Night will be held Tuesday, April 26 at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium. TNReady English testing will be Thursday, April 28 and TNReady math testing will be Friday, April 29. Senior project make-up presentations will be Friday, April 29 at 7:30 a.m. Prom will be held Saturday, April 30 at Page High School with senior prom presentations at 7 p.m. and prom will be held from 8 p.m. until 11 p.m. That wraps up the month of April.
Summit High
Summit High School seniors may now pre-order graduation DVD’s for $20 each. Order forms are in the front office or can be accessed through the school website. You may also purchase them online. The last day to order Graduation DVD’s will be May 13. In other news, the March Students of the Month for Summit High School are Austin Cushey, Julianna Broome, Cameron Ingle, Makala Marsee, David Melendez, Shelby Penning, Leith Abudiab and Amber Bandish.
