School Lunch Prices to Rise in 2016-17

Elementary school breakfast and lunch prices and high school breakfast prices will increase by 25 cents with the 2016-17 school year. This will be the first price increase since 2007. That decision was confirmed when the School Board approved the Central Cafeteria budget at its March 28 meeting.

Elementary school breakfast will cost $1.50, and lunch will cost $2.75. Middle school breakfast will remain $1.50, and lunch will remain at $2.75. High school breakfast will cost $1.75, and lunch will remain $2.75.

Adults pay $2.50 for breakfast and $3.50 for lunch.

“We have always tried to keep our meal prices as low as we can, but almost a decade of holding the prices steady, it is time for an increase,” said Food Services Director James Remete. “Due the rising cost of food and supplies, it’s become necessary to raise the meal prices.”

Williamson County school cafeterias serve more than 3.4 million meals during a school year.

The School Board approved three other budgets for 2016-17 during the meeting including a $316,533,265 General Purpose School Budget; a $4,973,267 Extended School Program Budget; and an $11,297,355 Capital Outlay Request.

The school district budgets will be reviewed by the Williamson County Commission budget and education committees before being approved by the entire Commission at its July 11 meeting.
