Safely Walking to School in Williamson County

Walking to school just got a whole lot easier and safer thanks to two walking paths constructed near the Heritage Campus and Spring Station Middle and Summit High schools.

Despite a cold morning on December 3, students, dozens of parents, students and staff members from all four schools bundled up and participated in a walk to school day to officially break in the new paths.

“The students and staff had so much fun walking to school on Friday,” said Heritage Middle Principal Dr. Dana Finch. “The beautiful bridge and path will give our students who live nearby opportunities to enjoy the fresh air and get a little bit of exercise as they safely walk to school. We hope many will be able to take advantage of this new path.”

To commemorate the official opening of the bridge and sidewalk connecting the Tanyard Springs subdivision to Heritage Commons, members of the neighborhood, along with school administrators and city officials participated in an official ribbon cutting ceremony.

On that same day across town, Summit High and Spring Station Middle officially celebrated the completion of the sidewalk up Spring Station Drive with another ribbon cutting ceremony.

Both sidewalk projects were made possible through federal and state grants for the purpose of helping to make walking to school safer and easier for students.
