Published March 18, 2016

The purpose of this section is to answer any questions parents, teachers or community members might have regarding the school district and to set the record straight in regards to any rumors that might be circulating.

If you have a question or have heard a rumor that you would like for us to address, simply SEND US your questions and we will respond to them in upcoming issues of InFocus. Below are some of the questions we have received since our last issue.

We are planning to buy house on Split Log Rd. I am aware that Ravenwood had rezoning during 2014 in that area. I was wondering if there is any re-zoning happening for either Kenrose or Ravenwood in the coming two to three years.

While no specific time frame has been announced, some rezoning is a possibility for the 2017-18 school year. We expect the process to begin during the 2016-17 school year and go into effect for the 2017-18 school year. The Board discussed the schedule at last night’s work session.

The district has staff who review school locations, the number of students residing in geographic areas and the effect school zones have upon each other. Staff will continue to gather information and decisions will be made regarding rezoning proposals. Those proposals will be posted to the district website, local and social media as soon as they are available. In addition, community meetings for parental input will likely be held at schools in the affected areas.

I heard Dr. Looney decreed that all high school proms be held on the same day. Is this true?

There is no truth to this rumor. Prom dates are determined by each school, with some proms happening this year on various Saturdays in April and one in May.
