Rumor Mill – January 29, 2016

Published January 29, 2016

The purpose of this section is to answer any questions parents, teachers or community members might have regarding the school district and to set the record straight in regards to any rumors that might be circulating.

If you have a question or have heard a rumor that you would like for us to address, simply SEND US your questions and we will respond to them in upcoming issues of InFocus. Below are some of the questions we have received since our last issue.

The Five Year Capital Outlay Plan has funds assigned to “Brentwood Area Elementary School” scheduled for completion in the fall of 2017. What elementary schools are overcrowded and need relief in the Brentwood area? Are there any plans for land purchase? How much land is typically needed for an elementary campus? Outside the Turner Farm property, open land in this area appears to be scarce.

The elementary schools that are currently near or over their stated building capacity in the Brentwood area include Edmondson Elementary, Kenrose Elementary, Lipscomb Elementary and Scales Elementary. Crockett Elementary is over its building capacity when the Early Childhood and Pre-Kindergarten enrollment numbers are included.

There are plans for a land purchase, and we continue with that search. Typically, we like to have at least 20 acres for an individual elementary school. If it were an elementary and middle school, we would need at least 45 acres.
