Rumor Mill – January 22, 2016

Published January 21, 2016

The purpose of this section is to answer any questions parents, teachers or community members might have regarding the school district and to set the record straight in regards to any rumors that might be circulating.

If you have a question or have heard a rumor that you would like for us to address, simply SEND US your questions and we will respond to them in upcoming issues of InFocus. Below are some of the questions we have received since our last issue.

As the district gears up for the rezoning that is expected, how is this monumental task handled? How are the new school zones created? Will there be parent input? Also does the rezoning take into account subdivisions that are already approved (but not yet built) for areas when planning and deciding about school zones?

While no specific time frame has been announced, the district has a staff committee that reviews school locations, the number of students residing in geographic areas and the effect school zones have upon each other. All subdivision data, including those approved but not currently under construction, is included in recommendations to the School Board. Construction timetables from both developers and municipal planning officers are additional points of data that our offices maintain. Rezoning proposals are posted to the district website, local and social media. Community meetings for parental input are generally held at schools in the affected area.
