Rumor Mill – February 5, 2016

Published February 4, 2016

The purpose of this section is to answer any questions parents, teachers or community members might have regarding the school district and to set the record straight in regards to any rumors that might be circulating.

If you have a question or have heard a rumor that you would like for us to address, simply SEND US your questions and we will respond to them in upcoming issues of InFocus. Below are some of the questions we have received since our last issue.

Recently, the Tennessean reported that Williamson County Schools would do another rezoning “next year.” Is this true? If so, which school year will it go into effect? When will the changes be announced?

While no specific time frame has been announced, some rezoning is a possibility for the 2017-18 school year. We expect the process to begin during the 2016-17 school year and go into effect for the 2017-18 school year.

The district has staff who review school locations, the number of students residing in geographic areas and the effect school zones have upon each other. Staff will continue to gather information and decisions will be made regarding rezoning proposals. Those proposals will be posted to the district website, local and social media as soon as they are available. In addition, community meetings for parental input will likely be held at schools in the affected areas.

Can you clarify the anticipated opening date for the new Thompson’s Station Elementary/Middle? Some reports say 2017, others say 2018. Also, which elementary schools do you primarily plan to pull students from?

It is Williamson County School’s projection that those schools will open for the 2017-18 school year. The zoning process for a 2017-18 opening will take place during the 2016-17 school year, at the same time as any other rezoning within the district.

What’s the latest on changing the start times in WCS?

We are in the process of scheduling community meetings to gather input. They will be announced in InFocus in a future issue.
