The purpose of this section is to answer any questions parents, teachers or community members might have regarding the school district and to set the record straight in regards to any rumors that might be circulating.
If you have a question or have heard a rumor that you would like for us to address, simply SEND US your questions and we will respond to them in upcoming issues of InFocus. Below are some of the questions we have received since our last issue.
Are rumors of Independence students being rezoned to Summit High true? If so, have homes been identified that would impacted by a rezone? And lastly, what options are available if a family does not want their child moved to another school? Especially if it could impact their current academic success.
Independence High is not being rezoned for the 2016-17 school year. The district will be zoning for the new schools located in Thompson’s Station this fall, after the 2016-17 school year begins. The current grandfather policy states that rising fifth, eighth, eleventh and twelfth grade students who are rezoned may request and be grandfathered to continue in the former school. Requests must be submitted by May 15 of the preceding year. Parents/guardians are responsible for transportation to the out of zone school.
