Parent Writes Letter of Thanks to Bus Driver

Published September 10, 2015

Everywhere you look, WCS students and staff are spreading the BE NICE message through their words and actions. That includes school bus driver Christi Chunn.

Last month, a parent emailed Superintendent Looney and Bethesda Elementary Principal Steve Fisher to express his gratitude for Chunn. The father explained how Chunn’s “simple act of selflessness” provided an important life lesson to his daughter, proving yet again that bus drivers play a crucial role in the lives of students.

You can read the email below in its entirety:

“To whom it may concern,

The intent of this e-mail is to give recognition for an employee that has gone above and beyond for the sake of my child and her education. My daughter is a student at Spring Station Middle School. Many times, like most kids her age, my daughter can be forgetful.

On August 10, she left her binder with her study materials on the bus. Christi Chunn completed her route from Spring Station and returned to Bethesda Elementary School where my younger child attends. Christi then located the driver for my son’s bus and provided her with the binder and instructions to give the said item to her sibling. My daughter was very excited about this, and she has raved about how she wishes everyone could be as nice to her as “Mrs. Christi” is.

In an attempt to prevent malingering, I will make it simple. WCS is privileged to have employees such as Mrs. Christi. I firmly feel that this individual should receive some type of recognition for her simple gesture that has so positively impacted my daughter. This was a simple act of selflessness that allowed me to provide my daughter yet another life lesson that we should always seek to help others in need no matter how great or small.”
