Parent Leaders Learn about Operations of the District

Published August 19, 2015

Parent organization leaders from around the county gathered August 19 in Franklin to learn about district operations and to meet with elected officials.

The meeting was the first of several Superintendent Looney will have this year with PTO/PTA/PTSO presidents and school principals. The sessions provide an opportunity for sharing district information, while giving parents the chance to ask questions of district leadership.

At Wednesday’s meeting, Looney told those in attendance that growth continues to be a concern in the county. He also discussed the need for additional bus drivers and provided an update on construction.

Community Development Director Dr. Deb Enright spoke to the crowd about the district’s Feed Our COWs campaign, which raises funds for technology in schools, and the Communications Department addressed the various ways in which the district will be communicating with parents this year.

In addition, Williamson County School Board members and state legislators spent an hour with the group. The elected officials took turns meeting in small groups with parents and principals, discussing everything from later start times for schools to traffic congestion.

“We have incredible parental support here in Williamson County Schools,” said Looney. “These meetings give us a chance to get to know our parent organization leaders and share important district information with them. We’re so thankful for their service.”
