Middle School Library Resources

Published January 21, 2016

In honor of Library Month in Williamson County, WCS middle school librarians have teamed up to let the Williamson County community know about the great things going on in each of their libraries. You might be surprised at what each school has to offer.

  • Meeting Authors. The Woodland Library loves connecting students with authors. We’ve hosted 40 authors over the years, and we look forward to hosting many more. In the fall, students met Alan Gratz, author of Prisoner B-3087, which is a Volunteer State Book Award nominee. This spring, we look forward to hosting Roland Smith. Students love meeting the authors behind some of their favorite books, and it’s something they’ll never forget. – Lindsey Anderson, Woodland Middle

  • Ebooks and Audiobooks. Our Destiny library catalog not only shows you what print books we have available, but it also serves as a link to our Ebook and Digital Audoibook collections. If you enter your school’s Destiny catalog via the WCS Student Internet Resources page and log in with your student ID, you can access your student’s Follett Shelf to view and checkout from the digital collection. Ask your awesome librarian for a demonstration. – Susan Oldham, Grassland Middle
  • Staying Busy in Fairview. The Fairview Middle School library is busy. We have all grades checking out books, eighth graders setting up their high school schedules with the Fairview High counselors as well as MIST and STAR makeup testing. It’s a crazy fun time in the library. – Annette Kuykendall, Fairview Middle
  • Follow the library on Twitter! You can find out the latest in library happenings at @wcsPageMSjc. Read a good book from the library recently? Tell everyone about it on our website at Edublogs.wcs.edu/pagemiddlelibrary/. Simply click on the Book Reviews tab at the top of the site and write your review in the comments on the page. Finished off your To Be Read pile and don’t know what to read next? Go to the What Should I Read Next page to get dozens of recommendations based on what you last read. Explore the rest of our website for news, research tips, author visits and more at edublogs.wcs.edu/pagemiddlelibrary/. – Julie Caudle, Page Middle
  • New Librarian! Welcome to WCS, Brooke Penrod. Mrs. Penrod is the new librarian at Hillsboro School. – Hillsboro School
  • Download (and use) the Destiny Quest App. Students can download the Destiny Quest app on their devices and literally have the library catalog at their fingertips. Destiny Quest gives students easy access to digital books owned by their library. Visit the app store to install Destiny Quest; once the app is installed, type in wcs.follettdestiny.com for the library url and select the appropriate school. Students then login with their WCS username and password. At Sunset Middle, students can use the app to renew books, create books lists and even put books on hold. – Laura Kleman, Sunset Middle
  • Participate in a Book Challenge. Last year, over 5,000 books were read by sixth graders, during Spring Station’s 40 Book Challenge! This year, we are well on our way to breaking that record! The library partners with sixth grade teachers in sponsoring the 40 Book Challenge. Each student is challenged to read 40 books of various genres throughout the school year. As they read and pass applicable AR quizzes, students are awarded prizes. In addition, they are recognized on our Challenge Wall. At the culmination of the program, the library throws a big bash to celebrate reading and student success! Ready to join the challenge? – Angelia Seagroves, Spring Station Middle
