Making Memories with WCS Student Athletes

Published September 17, 2015

In the spirit of BE NICE month, some Williamson County students are choosing to spend their free time helping others and making new friends in the process.

On September 12, the Ravenwood High School football team and cheer squad and the Sunset Middle football team, joined members of the Full Circle and 1Team1Goal programs for a day of flag football and cheerleading.

Both Full Circle and 1Team1Goal are free programs for students with special needs.

“I think activities like these give our young people an opportunity to help make a memory for someone else that will last a lifetime,” said RHS Head Football Coach Will Hester. “In the end, our kids usually end up making a memory for them that lasts as well.”

Though one of the goals of the day is teaching football and cheer, the camaraderie that spurs from the day, along with forming ‘one team’ both on and off the field, is what makes this program so special.

“I hope this taught the team the importance of inclusion and respect for all people,” said RHS Cheer Coach Cady Conley. “As a special education teacher, inclusion is a topic I’m extremely passionate about. It’s an attitude that embraces all individuals regardless of differences and recognizes their value to society. I hope this learning experience can translate into the school and community environment more often.”
