Making a Difference with Manicures

Nearly a dozen Centennial High cosmetology students are making a difference in the lives of their neighbors by pampering residents at NHC Assisted Living.

On October 27, around 20 residents received manicures and pedicures from CHS students.

“The students were professional, experienced and contagious with their smiles,” said NHC Social Director Sandy Davis. “The residents felt cherished, loved and pampered as students asked questions about their lives and made their nails pretty. Thank you to the cosmetology students for the blessings they brought to the residents at NHC.”

CHS Cosmetology teacher Missy Walker explains how this event shines a light on two important aspects she tries to teach: real world application of a skill and giving back to your community.

“A real salon experience is incredibly important since it’s more job-like, and the students love to work with real clients as opposed to their manikins,” said Walker. “This unique experience allows them to make someone feel special and pampered, while giving back to the community, which is equally as important.”

This is the first time CHS students have worked with NHC but plans to continue this partnership in the future are in the works.

“The students were so excited prior to attending and then asked if we could go again,” said Walker. “We’re hoping to visit NHC every other month for manicures and pedicures.”

There are currently 106 students enrolled in the three levels of cosmetology classes offered at Centennial High.
