JROTC cadets from Fairview and Franklin high schools had the honor and privilege of marching in the Congressional Medal of Honor Parade on August 8 in downtown Nashville.
The parade is part of Nashville Salutes, a special three-day event saluting Medal of Honor recipients.
“It was our way of showing honor and respect to some real American heroes,” said Franklin High JROTC cadet Ellie Bearss.
The cadets not only marched in the parade, but observed military displays and performances and met a Medal of Honor recipient.
“The opportunity to march in the Medal of Honor Parade was a once in a lifetime opportunity,” said Lt. Col. and Franklin High JROTC instructor Greg Hoover. “The highlight for me was for our cadets to meet a Medal of Honor recipient. We will study Medal of Honor recipients this year as part of our character development program. I hope the cadets will remember shaking hands with Mr. Harold Fritz for the rest of their lives.”
