Heritage Middle School student Connor Tharpe finished first among eighth graders in the Cumberland District. Tharpe is represented by the Brigadier General Richard Winn chapter of the DAR.
The American History Essay Contest was established to encourage young people to think creatively about our nation’s great history and learn about history in a new light. This contest is open to students in grades five through eight. Essays are judged for historical accuracy, adherence to the topic, organization of materials, interest, originality, spelling, grammar, punctuation and neatness.
For his win, Connor will receive a bronze medal and certificate. His essay will also advance to the state level.
