Donation to Enhance Student Learning

More computers are in the hands of students thanks to a generous donation by Nissan. Approximately 100 refurbished laptops were given to the district through Nissan’s Information Systems Department.

“Nissan supports many educational programs in Middle Tennessee, so we were happy to contribute to Williamson County Schools by donating re-purposed laptops from our Franklin headquarters,” said Steven Lambert, Nissan Vice President, Information Systems. “We hope these computers will increase access to educational materials that will help teachers and enhance student learning in local classrooms.”

Many of the laptops are being used in math classes at Fairview High School. “We are extremely excited to accept this generous gift from Nissan,” said Fairview High Principal Dr. Juli Oyer. “Students who are completing a hybrid (part online-part teacher taught) math course will have easy, every day access to the technology they need. This is a self-paced class and having technology in the classroom will create immediate access for student learning rather than competing against other technology needs in the building.”

Oyer said additional laptops will be used in other math classrooms providing real-time enrichment or remediation opportunities for students.

Nissan Senior Manager of Corporate Social Responsibility and 2014 WCS Ambassador Vicki Smith worked with WCS Development Director Dr. Deb Enright to secure the devices for students.

“We appreciate our WCS Ambassadors. They continue to extend their relationships with our school system long after they graduate from our program,” said Enright. “These laptops provide an innovative way for our community to meet the challenge of only having enough devices for one third of our student population.”
