District Receives Two Fully Fed COWs

Elementary students in Fairview will have more access to technology thanks to the generous donations of more than a dozen individuals and small businesses.

Two fully fed COWs (Computers on Wheels) were presented to Fairview Elementary and Westwood Elementary schools August 18 at the Williamson, Inc. membership meeting in Franklin. A fully equipped COW includes 30 laptops and charging cables on a cart which can be moved from one classroom to another.

Former WCS parent and School Board member Cherie Hammond joined WCS parent and Class of 2013 WCS Ambassador Dave Crouch on stage as they thanked the individuals and small businesses who fed these particular COWs and encouraged others to participate as well. District 1 School Board Member Ken Peterson says the Fairview community is not only thrilled to have the additional technology, but they’re already looking for ways to help other schools in the district.

“I want the Williamson County business community and donors to know we appreciate their support with the donation of $20,000 for our elementary schools,” said Peterson. “We want to ‘pay it forward’ so we can show that Fairview wants to be part of these fundraising efforts. All of our schools need these benefits, and we want to assist in supporting them based on the incredible support we have received!”

Peterson says he and several others are working with principals to develop fundraisers that would help provide a COW to another school in the county.

The district’s goal for the Feed Our COWs program is to provide one or more COWs to each WCS elementary school, middle school and new Nolensville schools. This will ensure increased access to technology for classroom learning and enable students to participate in the required state online testing program by the spring of 2016.
