Academic All-Star – Sunset Elementary School

Published April 7, 2016

The Academic All-Star award is given to students who exhibit a positive attitude and a commitment to excellence in the classroom. Each Academic All-Star is chosen by his or her principal and receives a framed certificate, coupons to Sonic Drive-In and a free gift courtesy of Big Frog Custom T-Shirts & More in Franklin.

With a name like Hope, it’s no surprise that 10-year-old Hope Nash is one of the most positive students at her school.

In fact, teachers say Hope’s optimism is one of several reasons why the fifth grader was selected as Sunset Elementary School’s Academic All-Star.

“Hope is always smiling and demonstrates a positive attitude,” said Sunset Elementary teacher Marlee Priest. “She gives her best effort with all that she does, and she never complains about a challenge. She is a friend to everyone and often asks how she can help out in the classroom.”

Along with being an excellent student, Hope is also a car ambassador who enjoys cheerleading in her free time. Although she wants to be an archaeologist when she grows up, Hope says her favorite class is science.

“I’ve liked science since first grade because you get to do experiments and stuff,” said Hope. “It’s the most fun.”

Hope knows the importance of making good grades as she continues her education. That’s why she works so hard to do well.

“I’m trying to do well in school because I want to get good grades so I can be an archaeologist,” said Hope. “Also, if I play a sport in middle school, I have to make good grades. I want to be included, so that’s why I keep working hard in school.”

While it came as no surprise to those who know her, Hope admits she was caught off guard when it was announced in front of the entire school that she is Sunset Elementary’s Academic All-Star.

“I was surprised,” said Hope. “I thought it was going to be my other friend, because she does all that stuff. I didn’t think it was going to be me, but I’m glad it is.”
