Academic All-Star – Pearre Creek Elementary

Published April 22, 2016

The Academic All-Star award is given to students who exhibit a positive attitude and a commitment to excellence in the classroom. Each Academic All-Star is chosen by his or her principal and receives a framed certificate, coupons to Sonic Drive-In and a free gift courtesy of Big Frog Custom T-Shirts & More in Franklin.

Those who know her describe fifth grader Ada Whitefield as a bright, thoughtful, caring young lady who always puts forth her best effort. So it came as no surprise when teachers and administrators at Pearre Creek Elementary selected her as the school’s Academic All-Star.

“Ada has been called a human dictionary,” said fifth grade teacher Karen Jewell. “She is always prepared for class. She works hard, and she is always willing to be a friend to others.”

Ada is among the first group of Panthers to complete all six years at Pearre Creek, which opened in 2010. Ada likes to stay involved. Not only is she part of the school’s color guard, but she represented the fifth grade in the school spelling bee and served as the newspaper editor at JA BizTown.

Seeing as how she loves to read and write short stories in her spare time, it makes sense that Ada wants to be an author when she grows up.

“I like to read a lot,” said Ada. “I especially like fiction books and anything that has to do with medieval times.”

Other than reading, Ada enjoys making arts and crafts, playing tennis and competing against her family in a friendly game of badminton.

Next year, Ada will move on to Spring Station Middle School. She says she’s looking forward to the start of sixth grade.

“I’m actually very excited and only a little nervous,” said Ada. “It’s just like a big transition, and you get to grow a little bit more.”

Like all the other Academic All-Stars, Ada knows the importance of her education and doing well in school.

“Without an education, I can’t grow up and be what I want to be.”
