The Academic All-Star award is given to students who exhibit a positive attitude and a commitment to excellence in the classroom. Each Academic All-Star is chosen by his or her principal and receives a framed certificate, coupons to Sonic Drive-In and a free gift courtesy of Big Frog Custom T-Shirts & More in Franklin.

It’s not often a fifth grader knows exactly what she wants to be when she grows up. But that’s one of the qualities that makes 11-year-old Madison Heithcock perfect for becoming Longview Elementary School’s Academic All-Star.

“Madison Heithcock is an Academic All-Star because she represents perseverance, dedication and a positive attitude toward learning,” said Longview Principal Dr. Gabrina Charles. “She goes the extra mile in completing homework, classwork and projects. She extends those qualities when working with her peers as well.”

Madison loves reading, both in and out of school. She says her favorite subject is language arts. As for her favorite type of books, you may be surprised.

“I like the ones about Greek mythology,” Madison said. “I think those are pretty cool.”

Outside of school, Madison is involved in competitive cheerleading. She also likes to show off her creative side.

“I like to jump on a trampoline and make stuff and draw,” she said.

As for life after school, Madison says she knows exactly what kind of career she wants to have.

“I want to be a lawyer,” said Madison. “My aunt’s a lawyer, and she’s pretty successful. I just want to be able to go to college and one day provide for a family. That’s why I want to be successful in school.”
