Academic All-Star – Kenrose Elementary

Published May 20, 2016

The Academic All-Star award is given to students who exhibit a positive attitude and a commitment to excellence in the classroom. Each Academic All-Star is chosen by his or her principal and receives a framed certificate, coupons to Sonic Drive-In and a free gift courtesy of Big Frog Custom T-Shirts & More in Franklin.

Teachers describe 11-year-old William Coleburn as a terrific student who always has a smile on his face. So it came as no surprise when administrators and teachers at Kenrose Elementary selected him as the school’s Academic All-Star.

“William is a student leader who is kind and helpful to everyone,” said Kenrose teacher Brandi Smith. “He consistently has a positive attitude, a smile on his face and a ‘Good Morning’ greeting each day. William is a very conscientious student who works hard to achieve his goals and perseveres through challenges. He is a wonderful role model for all Kenrose students of what it means to be responsible and respectful.”

Now that he’s finishing up his time at Kenrose, William says it will be bittersweet to leave behind the school he’s been at since kindergarten.

“I’m going to miss the teachers and Dr. Webb,” said William. “They are all so inquisitive and intelligent.”

According to William, one of his former teachers ignited a love for math that he never knew he had.

“I just like playing with numbers,” said William. “It’s just kind of my passion to find out equations and other things related to math. I used to never like it, but my third grade teacher, Mr. Boggs, really made me see it in a whole new light.”

Outside of school, William likes to play tennis and spend time with his sister. He also enjoys drawing in his journal.

“I want to be an architect when I grow up,” said William. “I like drawing houses and I like driving through neighborhoods and looking at architectural designs. I like to draw different houses in my journal.”

It’s a dream William is sure to attain if he keeps working hard.

“I know if you do well in school, better things come with it,” said William. “Succeeding is the key to life.”
