The Academic All-Star award is given to students who exhibit a positive attitude and a commitment to excellence in the classroom. Each Academic All-Star is chosen by his or her principal and receives a framed certificate, coupons to Sonic Drive-In and a free gift courtesy of Big Frog Custom T-Shirts & More in Franklin.
Thirteen-year-old Jackson Burrus is building a solid foundation for success at Heritage Middle School.
The seventh grader was just named the school’s Academic All-Star for the 2015-16 school year.
“With a constant smile, Jackson is a kind and helpful young man,” said HMS Principal Dr. Dana Finch. “He is one that I know I can always count on. His determination to succeed has led him to excel in class, while his personality reflects a gentle spirit and a giving heart. Therefore, Jackson is an excellent choice as an Academic All Star.”
Jackson’s favorite subject is social studies because he enjoys learning about the past. He is also involved in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and in his free time, Jackson likes to hang out with his family.
When it comes to his future, Jackson says he wants to be an architect when he grows up. He even uses it as motivation so that he performs his best at school.
“My education is important to me because I want to go to a good college and get a good job,” said Jackson, who admits he still can’t believe he was named an Academic All-Star.
“I’m stunned,” said Jackson. “I thought for sure it was going to be someone else, but I’m happy it wasn’t.”
