The Academic All-Star award is given to students who exhibit a positive attitude and a commitment to excellence in the classroom. Each Academic All-Star is chosen by his or her principal and receives a framed certificate, coupons to Sonic Drive-In and a free gift courtesy of Big Frog Custom T-Shirts & More in Franklin.
Centennial High School freshman Jose Araujo knows a thing or two about overcoming adversity. Jose moved to Williamson County from Mexico and began attending Centennial High this year. Despite knowing very little English, teachers say Jose’s commitment to his schoolwork has been impressive. That’s why he was chosen as the school’s Academic All-Star for the 2015-16 school year.
“Jose is amazing,” said CHS teacher Erin Caceres. “He works hard and has maintained an A or B average in nearly all of his classes. Jose is always attentive, and even though he is very shy, he does what he is asked every time and participates every day.”
Jose’s favorite subject is math, which is great because he hopes to one day be either an architect or an engineer.
“I like numbers and I like to do equations,” said Jose. “My mom suggested being an architect, and I like the idea.”
Outside of school, Jose likes to play soccer with his friends. Inside of school, Jose knows he has to work hard, but he enjoys it.
“I’m motivated by the difficult events I’ve had to go through in my life,” said Jose. “My parents are a big help because they encourage me to keep studying.”
Teachers say they’re confident Jose will continue to excel as long as he remains focused on the future.
“Jose is a total boot-strap kid,” said Caceres. “He totally rises above all of the distractions and makes his education a priority.”
