Academic All-Star – Bethesda Elementary

Published April 15, 2016

The Academic All-Star award is given to students who exhibit a positive attitude and a commitment to excellence in the classroom. Each Academic All-Star is chosen by his or her principal and receives a framed certificate, coupons to Sonic Drive-In and a free gift courtesy of Big Frog Custom T-Shirts & More in Franklin.

Kind, dedicated and competitive. Those are just a few words that could be used to describe Bethesda Elementary School fifth grader Cole Greenwood, who was recently named the school’s Academic All-Star.

“Cole always gives 100 percent in class, he is so kind-hearted with a quiet, gentle spirit,” said BES teachers Susan Snowdon and Donna Nichols. “Cole is always willing to help and always willing to try what is asked of him with no complaints and a positive attitude.”

As a fifth grader who has attended Bethesda since kindergarten, Cole admits he’s a little nervous to start Heritage Middle School in the fall.

“It’s just that I’ve been here at Bethesda for so long,” said Cole. “This school is a lot of fun and the teachers are awesome.”

Outside of school, Cole can usually be found on some sort of court or field. No matter the sport, Cole loves to compete.

“I play basketball, football and baseball,” said Cole. “I might play soccer in the fall. I’m not the best at it, but I’ve always wanted to give it a shot.”

Cole’s love for sports is also evident in his choice for a future career.

“I really want to be a NBA player,” said Cole. “If I can’t do that, I would want to be a commentator for the NFL, and if I can’t do that, I’d want to be a restaurant owner.”

Although Cole loves sports, he knows his education will always come first.

“I want to get a scholarship for academics and athletics,” said Cole. “My parents influence me, but I also expect myself to get all A’s, and if I don’t, I get disappointed. Then the next nine weeks I do my best.”
