WCS Posts Record High ACT Composite Score

It’s official – for the third consecutive year, WCS has achieved another spot at the top of the charts. The ACT composite scores are out, and WCS students have succeeded yet again with the highest composite average score in the history of the district. The WCS class of 2014 posted an ACT composite score of 23.5, up from last year’s score of 23.4.
“I am so proud of the Class of 2014,” said Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney. “Through its strategic plan, the School Board set a goal of 24 and we are well on our way to achieving that mark.”
Brentwood High posted the highest average of any Williamson County high school with a 25.9. BHS also recorded the highest percentage of students who met all four benchmarks at 60 percent. Below is a complete list of each Williamson County high school and its ACT composite score for the Class of 2014.
Brentwood High – 25.9
Centennial High – 22.2
Fairview High – 20.2
Franklin High – 24.3
Independence High – 22.4
Page High – 23.0
Ravenwood High – 24.9
Rennaisance High – 20.5
Summit High – 22.1
Additionally, WCS students set high marks in regards to college and career readiness benchmarks, which are the target scores in each of the four subject areas that suggest a higher probability of success in college entry-level courses. Forty-one percent of WCS graduates were identified as having met all four readiness benchmarks, which is one percent higher than last year.
For comparison, Tennessee’s composite ACT score for public school students is 19.3. Nationally, the composite ACT score was 21 with 26 percent meeting all benchmarks.
