Transition II Students Dance the Night Away at Winter Formal

Students in the WCS Transition II program enjoyed a snowflake covered winter wonderland on December 18 for the Transition II Winter Formal.
From cookie decorating to special appearances by Anna and Elsa from Disney’s Frozen and Santa Claus, the event was one to remember for the 65 students and 25 teachers and aides in attendance.
“The highlight of the entire event was when Elsa and Anna arrived,” said Independence High Teacher Lauren Huffmaster, who helped coordinate the event. “The students and adults alike were overwhelmed by the surprise. The students rushed over to the photo backdrop and after every student was given the chance to take a picture, the princesses invited the students to sing Let It Go with them. Many of the students lined up and performed the song. It was a dream come true for many of them.”
The night also included opportunities for students to enjoy a hot chocolate bar and snack area. A full meal was provided, along with a variety of other activities simulating real world application to what the students are learning.
“The event was set up like a corporate event,” said Huffmaster. “The students are learning to enter the workforce and so as they exit school, they may be invited to such events and will need to know how to handle themselves.”
Student Nila Huddleston summed up the night perfectly.
“I loved it,” said Nila. “There was paparazzi and Santa, and the food was jammin’.”
