Students Make Care Packages for Soldiers

Published December 12, 2014

Students at Independence High School are making the season a little brighter for our troops serving overseas in combat zones. The Independence JROTC is sponsoring a Soldier Care Package drive from now until Thursday, December 18.

You can help our active military personnel by donating everyday items for care packages.

Items to donate include:

  • Toothbrushes
  • Toothpaste
  • Combs
  • Shampoo
  • Conditioner
  • Soap
  • Toilet paper
  • Lip balm
  • Lotion
  • Lens wipes/cleaner
  • Hand warmers
  • Socks
  • T-shirts
  • Writing supplies

“The plan right now is to deliver the items to the Air National Guard in Nashville, who will in turn ship and/or deliver the packages to overseas military post offices,” said SFC and Army Instructor Eddie A. Slusser, Jr. “This event offers students an opportunity to show appreciation to an individual member of the uniform forces. I speak from experience when I say that soldiers appreciate receiving care packages.”

Letters are also encouraged in the care packages – telling our soldiers how much you appreciate what they do for our country. All donated items can be dropped off at the JROTC, Room G122.
