Spotlight Shines on Fairview High Band

Published June 24, 2015

If the name Justin Barr and the Fairview High School Band don’t ring a bell in your mind, they now should. Justin and the band were featured on the cover of this month’s edition of School Band and Orchestra (SBO) Magazine.

“It’s a little surreal because I have always seen SBO Magazines in different band rooms my whole life,” said Barr. “I am really glad to have the opportunity to show off everything the students and I have been working toward. The whole community is excited and proud and I am just glad to be a part of it.”

A producer for the magazine lives in Fairview and has been attending football games at Fairview for a long time. With talk about the band spreading around the community lately, he reached out to Barr in May to do an interview and from that, a eight-page spread and cover feature came to be.

“I am hoping the article spreads the word about the Fairview High School band community,” said Barr. “It’s also great for the kids from a motivational standpoint, making them feel like their work is changing the program for the next generation.”

Though there is always more work to be done, Barr is quite proud of his students and the program they continue to help shape.

“The students at Fairview are wonderful and I really could not be more proud,” said Barr. “We still have a lot to work on but it is nice to be able to see and hear such large scale improvements in both our image and sound. My favorite part is watching the younger students grow to take ownership and responsibility for the program because they know it is a reflection of themselves and their community.”
