The information below is provided by each school. Schools are listed in alphabetical order according to grade level.

Elementary Schools

 

Allendale Elementary

The classroom guidance classes at Allendale Elementary were given a safety lesson by Deputy David Grisham of the Williamson County Sheriff’s Department. The class covered safety as it relates to bikes, scooters, skate boards, inline and roller skates and any other activity involving wheels. Students were shown the importance of wearing helmets, proper attire, road safety and awareness around vehicles.

Bethesda Elementary

Second grade students at Bethesda Elementary School are watching and studying the life cycle of a butterfly. The metamorphosis is exciting for the children to observe and see for themselves. The caterpillars are now in the pupa stage. This stage can last from a few weeks to a month.

Clovercroft Elementary

Fifth graders at Clovercroft Elementary School have been gearing up for their visit to JA BizTown. This unique program engages students in the roles of workers and consumers in a series of classroom lessons that culminates in a visit to our fully-interactive simulated town. Students learn entrepreneurial and personal finance skills while they work and shop in their own vibrant community. Much like the real world, fifth graders undergo interviews prior to their visit to BizTown to determine what job they will hold.
College Grove Elementary

As part of the Be Nice initiative, College Grove Elementary students will be participating in a character club this year. Grade level partnerships have been established to allow students to discuss character traits and positive behavior in small groups. The first character club meeting was centered around the Be Nice initiative and reinforced that being nice is a choice we make every day, no matter where we are.

Crockett Elementary

Crockett Elementary School celebrated Red, White and Blue Day on September 17 as a way of honoring the school’s character word for September, RESPECT, and showing awareness of Constitution Day. On this day, students and staff were asked to wear red, white or blue tomorrow in a patriotic way. Organizers say it’s the school’s way of paying tribute to the 39 brave men who stepped out for what they believed in, united and wrote a document that would change the course of history.

Edmondson Elementary

The kindergarten students participated in Community Helpers Week at Edmondson Elementary. All of the kindergarten classes were visited by a Brentwood police officer on Monday, a dental hygienist on Tuesday and the Brentwood Fire Department brought the Fire Safety House on Thursday. Students had fun making hats to wear on those days.

Fairview Elementary

Fairview Elementary fourth graders are going on an expedition with European Explorers . They will be learning about the routes taken by these adventurous individuals along with both the negative and positive impact they had on Native Americans and our country. Fourth grade also took some time today to celebrate Constitution Day! They worked on discovering what the Preamble of the Constitution actually says and how our government is formed.

Grassland Elementary

During the month of September first grade will be learning lots of exciting new information at Grassland Elementary. In literacy they will learn how to visualize and ask questions about a story. In social studies we will be learning about the constitution. Thanks to everyone who has participated in the 2014-2015 Grassland Gives campaign. Please remember donations are accepted all year and are tax deductible. Fall Picture Day is Thursday, September 25.

Hunters Bend Elementary

Hunters Bend kindergarteners have been busy learning all about apples. The have identified and classified them and then learned how to make apple sauce! Box Tops collections have begun. Please send in your box tops to your child’s teacher or the front office.

Longview Elementary

In the days leading to the annual remembrance of 9/11 students in Mrs. James third grade class at Longview Elementary diligently crafted thoughtful letters of appreciation displaying colorful pictures for Spring Hill’s public service members. Some children were also able to create videos to express their gratitude to their favorite community member.

Nolensville Elementary

Constitution Day was Wednesday, September 17. Students in every grade level celebrated at NES. Third through fifth graders practiced reading the Preamble and studied Constitution vocabulary. In addition, fourth grade students created freedom posters. Students in grades K-2 read stories and studied patriotic symbols. A favorite for every student was singing the Preamble with the Schoolhouse Rock video clip.

Oak View Elementary

Oak View has been a busy place! Kindergarten was thrilled when Darth Vader (cool dad) surprised Mrs. Runnion’s kindergarten class as a mystery reader. Second grade was equally excited for the arrival of their caterpillars as they begin to study the life cycle of the butterfly. Fifth grade was buzzing with JA Biztown mayoral candidates campaigning and asking for votes. The candidates were prepared, the speeches were great and a mayor was elected! These are just a few of the exciting things going on this past week at Oak View!

Pearre Creek Elementary

The Pearre Creek PE Department will once again be hosting a Local Competition for the NFL Punt, Pass, and Kick Contest. This contest will be held after school at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, September 23. Boys and girls who will be 6 years old by December 31, 2014, are eligible to participate in the competition. Ribbons are awarded to the top three students in each age and gender division with the first place finisher moving on to the regional competition held in October at Baptist Sports Park in Nashville.

Scales Elementary

Spirit week has been fun at Scales Elementary School. Students and staff wore their school colors on Mustang Monday which was followed by Team Tuesday, Western Wednesday, Throwback Thursday and Fun Friday.

Sunset Elementary

Sunset Elementary received their Reward School designation for achievement at the Williamson County Board Meeting, Monday, September 15. Also, Sunset will be celebrating Spirit Week, September 22–26. Monday will be Mustache Day, Tuesday is Team Sports Day and kids can wear their favorite sports team’s jersey, clothes, and colors. Wednesday is Wild and Wacky Day when kids can wear wild and wacky clothes and hair styles. Thursday is Pajama Day. Friday is Sunset Spirit and Pride Day when kids can wear the school colors of orange and blue. Spirit Week will culminate with Fall Fest on Friday, September 26, beginning at 6 p.m. Come on out and experience the fun!

Walnut Grove Elementary

Walnut Grove is grateful for the support of five business leaders, Steve Baum, Lonnie Castle, Ron Imbrecht, Rick Wimberly and Stephen Wurzel, for their time spent interviewing our entire 5th grade class for JA Biztown. JA Biztown teaches students how to apply for a job as well as learning about the various steps required to apply for and obtain a job. Students engage in real life activities, including completion of a job application and a practice job interview. These activities help prepare students for their JA BizTown jobs and also how their interests and skills can lead to exciting careers.

Westwood Elementary

The Smart Card PTO fundraiser for Westwood Elementary School has been extended until Monday, September 22. Meanwhile, fifth graders are writing letters to the President, and fourth graders are studying homes of the Native Americans.

 

Middle Schools

 

Brentwood Middle

Brentwood Middle School held a pep rally 18! At the end of the relay, Principal Harlin and the assistant principals took the Ice Bucket Challenge!

Fairview Middle

The Fairview Middle and Fairview High School choruses combined for this performance at the Bowie Park Nature Fest on the Pine Tree Stage Saturday, September 13. The groups sang two folk songs: Bird’s Courting Song and Peace Like a River. It was the choruses second year to perform at this event.

Grassland Middle

Grassland Middle School’s Dr. Russ Keller, along with Shelly Cross and Joe Marley, took their history classrooms outside to learn about the Lost Colony of Roanoke. Students portrayed historical characters as Dr. Keller provided memorable commentary about what life was like for the group in a new land. Giving students a chance to get out of the classroom can enhance learning and increase retention. The brain loves novelty and a new setting can be just what some students need to stay motivated to learn.

Heritage Middle

Eighth grade science at HMS is full of explosive learning! The students are exploring the differences between chemical and physical changes. The students have been exposed to a wide variety of scenarios from the freezing and shattering a flower (physical change) to the cooking of an egg (chemical change), to the film canister canon (chemical change). The next step for the students will be putting their new knowledge to use when identifying a mystery mixture of substances in their upcoming lab.

Hillsboro School

Hillsboro student Dani Lunny finished 8th at the girls Cross Country JV Championship September 17 and Nora Henderson finished 1st! Congratulations to all of our runners on a great season!

Sunset Middle

Sunset Middle is looking forward to Spirit Week– September 22-26 with a pep rally on Thursday, September 25 from 2-2:30 p.m. Teams that will be recognized during the pep rally include football, volleyball, cross country, tennis and golf. The student council came up with the idea to center the week around a theme and the theme is DISNEY. Monday – Monsters University – Saber spirit is “monstrously big” – wear your favorite college team jersey; Tuesday – Lilo & Stitch – coming to school is like a Hawaiian vacation – wear your favorite Hawaiian shirt; Wednesday – The Incredibles – Saber spirit is obviously incredible – wear your favorite super hero costume; Thursday – Saber Spirit day – wear orange and blue; and Friday – neon day – in the afterglow of a fabulous spirit week – wear your brightest colors.

Woodland Middle

Woodland Middle School’s new performing arts center was officially dedicated to Principal Priscilla Fizer at the school’s 20th Anniversary Celebration September 13. Dozens of former teachers, students and staff attended the event, which featured musical performances by current students. Fizer has served as principal of Woodland Middle since the school opened in 1994.

 

High Schools

 

Centennial High

After a great week of Homecoming celebrations, Centennial is looking forward to another busy week. Tuesday, September 23 is School Picture Day. Wednesday, September 24 is the College Night at CoolSprings Galleria and Thursday, September 25 begins Parent/Teacher conferences. There is also a Freshman Parent Meeting at CHS in the Gym on Thursday September 25 at 7 p.m. Monday, September 29 will be another night for Parent/Teacher conferences and the PTSO will have their General Meeting at 7 p.m. that evening.

Fairview High

Fairview High School’s Community Garden Project is coming together thanks to help from local volunteers. The workers helped shovel gravel and paint during a community work day. The landscape management students and carpentry students are preparing the garden for its ribbon cutting ceremony set to take place later this month. Broadcasting 3 students are planning how our program will record this year’s home football game coverage. Broadcasting 2 students are preparing professional style news packages. Broadcasting 1 students are learning to record interviews.

Franklin High

Franklin High will be celebrating Homecoming next week. The week will be filled with different dress up days and float building. The parade will be in downtown Franklin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 26. The Homecoming Court presentation will be at 6:55 p.m. on the football field before the game against Lincoln County. The kickoff is 7:30 p.m.

Independence High

Students may now sign up for the PSAT which will be given on October 15. Students in grades 9-11 can choose to take the test. The cost is $15 payable in the counseling center until September 24. For juniors, the PSAT is the qualifying exam for the National Merit Scholarship Competition.

Page High

Bring your princess and her princess friends and join the Princess Tea Party at Page High School September 20 from 1-4 p.m. There will be face painting, nail painting, photos, karaoke and a pumpkin carriage. You may also meet your favorite princess. Tickets are $10 per child and adults are free. In other news, parent-teacher conferences will be held at Page High School Thursday, September 25 from 3-6 p.m. and Monday, October 6 from 3-6 p.m. by appointment. Please e-mail the teacher or teachers you would need to see so that they may schedule your appointment.

Ravenwood High

The Ravenwood High School JV Competition Cheerleaders are holding their 1st annual Fall Fashion Show at Blush Boutique in Cool Springs on October 5 at 6:30 p.m. Come watch the cheerleaders model new looks for fall! Blush will be open immediately following the fashion show for private event shopping. Refreshments will be served as well as the opportunity for raffle prizes. The Blush truck will also be there. Tickets are $10 and you may purchase from any JV competition cheerleader or you may contact Kristy Campbell at kristy36@comcast.net.
