The information below is provided by each school. Schools are listed in alphabetical order according to grade level.

Allendale Elementary

Summit High School hosted Allendale Elementary on Friday, September 5. The day began with Summit High School football players and cheerleaders visiting Allendale and getting the students excited for the Friday night game. At 6:30 Friday night, several Allendale students and staff lined up to cheer on the Summit Spartans as they took the field.

Bethesda Elementary

Bethesda Elementary School is kicking off the week of September 15 with Boosterthon to raise money for the school. The children will be getting pledges for how many times they can walk around the track. Students can win prizes for the donations or pledges they receive each day.

Chapman’s Retreat Elementary

Chapman’s Retreat Elementary School will hold its annual Fall Book Fair September 29-October 3.

Clovercroft Elementary

Clovercroft Elementary will be participating in Spirit Week the week of September 15-19 with Rock Star Monday, Giddy Up Tuesday, Wacky Wednesday, Team Thursday and Clovercroft Friday. Spirit Week will culminate in Cloverfest on Friday, September 19 from 5-7 p.m. where there will be food, games and other fun activities. Clovercroft will also host Family Math Night on Thursday, September 25 from 5:30-7 p.m.

College Grove Elementary

College Grove opened their new PBIS school store this week! Students are earning Rocket Bucks throughout the week and can spend them on a variety of items at the store. CGES would like to send a big thank you to all the parents helping with the school store by staffing it or sending in items. We appreciate your support!

Crockett Elementary

Students at Crockett Elementary School recently celebrated Spirit Week. Dress up days included Mustache Day!

Edmondson Elementary

Edmondson Elementary third graders in Darlene Shelton’s class combined technology with reading this week. The “I can” assignment was to use text features and search tools on a computer to locate information. Small groups learned how to use search engines and use keywords for searching for information on an ipad. The following day each student was given an ipad and assigned an animal to research for one fact. Many students took the assignment a step further and watched a video on their animal.

Fairview Elementary

It was book fair this week at Fairview Elementary School! All grade levels got to visit the book fair and make their wish lists. Fairview Elementary students love reading and are excited to find new favorites.

Grassland Elementary

The annual Grassland Elementary School Back to School Bash is September 18 from 5-7 p.m. There will be a fantastic silent auction, great food, DJ Louie, rolling video games and much more. Don’t miss this great night of family fun. A huge thank you to coordinators Shanna Lively, Claire Henderson and Melissa Dick.

Heritage Elementary

Students at Heritage Elementary School are staying fit by participating in the school’s Run Club.

Hunters Bend Elementary

Hunters Bend has been celebrating Spirit Week this week. We are culminating our celebration week with the annual PTO sponsored Family Fun Night. The Box Top drive begins soon. Please be sure you are saving your box tops. The classes can win exciting privileges for the homeroom that collects the most box tops each week! We love to see box tops come in the mail from grandparents too!

Longview Elementary

It’s time for Longview Elementary’s Book Fair. The fair will be from September 22-26 and include two family nights – September 23 and September 25. Also, Longview will hold their second Poetry under the Stars on Tuesday, September 23. This is a fun event where families are invited to share poetry and sing songs together in the gym that has been made to look like a campsite.

Nolensville Elementary

The Nolensville Elementary School PTO held its first meeting for the 2014-15 school year September 9. Officers were introduced, the budget was approved, the Be Nice initiative was explained and events were discussed. Officers are listed on the NES website with contact information. The first big fundraiser for the year is Fun Run. It has been moved from the spring to the fall. It will be held on Friday, October 17. Look for information to come home soon with details. After the meeting was over, faculty, parents, and students enjoyed an ice cream social. Girl Scout Troop 2362 helped serve. Parent support is greatly appreciated and encouraged. PTO is a great way to make that happen.

Oak View Elementary

Third graders at Oak View really enjoyed learning about the rock cycle! Students used different ingredients to create the three types of rocks. The different “rocks” were put together and heated. The heating of the ingredients formed a giant cookie… make that metamorphic rock. It was a great visual and a fun learning experience!

Pearre Creek Elementary

Pearre Creek Elementary second graders are learning about living things, their habitats, and how animals’ adaptations help them to survive. They are observing painted lady caterpillars. The young scientists are actively engaged and eager to celebrate butterfly life cycles with a special butterfly release in late September.

Scales Elementary

Families at Scales have been collecting gently used clothing to take to Warner Elementary in Nashville for the Mustang Closet. Grade levels have been collecting shoes, packaged underwear and socks, gloves, scarves and hats separately to add to the items for the Closet. Parents and fifth grade students have spent hours sorting clothes by gender and size.

 

Walnut Grove Elementary

This week at Walnut Grove, fourth graders in music are developing their understanding of beat by singing and playing drums in a drum circle. By playing the drums, our students work with rhythm to find a steady beat. The goal is to maintain a steady beat while playing in a group. The importance of learning to keep a beat and rhythm is an integral part of music and can help with language comprehension and math patterns and sequencing.

Winstead Elementary

On Friday, September 26, Winstead will host its second annual carnival and silent auction called Wildcat Palooza from 5–8 p.m. with the Silent Auction closing at approximately 8:30 p.m. There will be a DJ, games (cake walk, inflatables, photo booth, balloon guy and train ride just to name a few), prizes and food. This is a pay-per-activity event and each Winstead student receives a Palooza t-shirt as well as five tickets they can use to play games that night.

 

Middle Schools

 

Fairview Middle

Fairview Middle School will kick off its Mock Homecoming festivities next week, with the Homecoming football game on September 18 vs Hickman County. Students will have a chance to show their school spirit with dress up days Monday through Friday. The afterschool homecoming tailgate activities will cost students $15 to attend and will include a meal, admission to the JV and Varsity games, a chance to participate in a teachers vs students kickball and tug of war tournament, face painting and unlimited turns on the inflatable obstacle course. Come out and support the Falcons!

Grassland Middle

Keenan West made a stop at Grassland Middle School as part of his Mean Stinks Nicest Tour Ever as part of our BE NICE campaign. Keenan uses music and dancing in his anti-bullying message to kids. He brings a great energy and coolness factor!

Heritage Middle

The 8th grade at HMS has been actively engaged in learning about chemical and physical changes, the stages of matter and the criteria of how to determine if the change is a chemical or physical change with exciting displays of both! They have also been reviewing the different instruments used to measure and the different units of measure.

Hillsboro School

Hillsboro School is proud to be recognized as a 2014 SCORE Prize Finalist! SCORE (State Collaborative on Reforming Education) studied assessment data from all Tennessee public schools (including magnet and charter schools), and has selected Hillsboro School as an exemplar for excellence in student growth and achievement. Hillsboro School is now vying with two other middle schools in the state for a $10,000 prize and the title of 2014 SCORE Prize Winner! Judging continues throughout the month of September, and the final winner will be announced on Monday, October 27, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center in downtown Nashville. Congratulations Hillsboro students, staff, parents, and community supporters! We are so proud of your fantastic accomplishments!

Spring Station Middle School

Tuesday, September 16 will be Spring Station Night at Buffalo Wild Wings. From 4 p.m. until closing, tell your server that you are with Spring Station and the basketball team will receive a percentage of the sales for the evening.

Sunset Middle School

Eighth grade science students at SMS constructed models of atoms. They chose an element from the Periodic Table and included information such as number of protons, number of electrons, number of neutrons, valence electrons and number of electrons for each energy level. In other news, Sunset Middle students recently joined the STARS Student Executive Council (SEC), a prevention club for students who choose to abstain from the use of tobacco, alcohol and other drugs, violence and other life controlling problems. Group members participate in educational and fun activities as well as community service learning projects and cross-age mentoring.

Woodland Middle

Mr. Christy’s class got a new printing press and couldn’t wait to try it out! They began working on the art of printmaking. These are etchings they do into plexiglas and then hand colored with watercolor pencils. The artists got to choose their own subject matter and designs. Woodland students recently elected the 2014-2015 Student Council. They are: President – Mark Hancock, Vice President – Karli Faro, Secretary – Femi Adegoke, Assistant Secretary – Valerie Orange, Attendance Clerk 1 – Jakob Reuter, Attendance Clerk 2 – Lauren Williams, Historian – Sam Anctil. Congratulations to all the elected officers!

 

High Schools

 

Brentwood High

Centennial High

Centennial is excited to partner with a new pizza restaurant in Cool Springs called Pie Five Pizza Co. Pie Five will do a soft opening on Tuesday, September 16 and Wednesday, September 17 with 50 percent of their proceeds being donated to CHS. Join the Cougars for a whole new pizza experience and support the school. Lunch will be from 11-2 p.m. and dinner will be from 5-9 p.m. Pie Five is located at 401 B Cool Springs Blvd in Franklin. Meanwhile, the Centennial Cougars are getting ready for a busy week celebrating Homecoming Events September 15 through the 19. There will be a Powder Puff football game on Thursday at 9 a.m., the Homecoming parade at 1:55 p.m. in front of the school and a Dodge Ball Tournament in the gym at 4:30 p.m.. Friday will be the pep rally at 2 p.m. with the Homecoming Court presented before the football game at 6:40 p.m. The Homecoming Dance will be on Saturday Evening from 7-11 p.m. at CHS.

Fairview High

Franklin High

Franklin High School held a special awards ceremony for Tia Hyatt September 11. Tia is the JROTC Battalion Commander and is being awarded the “Legion of Valor Bronze Cross.” This award is the highest National Award that can be given to a high school JROTC cadet who has shown consistent leadership qualities, community service, dedication to their high school, and has exceeded normal expectations of a high school student. The presenter will be LTCOL Philip Maynard, a representative of the Legion of Valor Council.

Independence High

Thursday, September 18 is College Night from 6-7 p.m. in the IHS Library. Representatives from the Tennessee Student Assistance Program, Tennessee Achieves and Columbia State Community College will be here to talk about the Hope “Lottery” Scholarship and the Tennessee Promise Scholarship. Tennessee Promise is a new program offering two years of tuition- free community college or technical college to Tennessee high school graduates beginning with the Class of 2015.

Page High

The College Fair will be held at Cool Spring Galleria Mall Wednesday, September 24 from 6-8 p.m. There will be many colleges and universities with their representative to inquire with. Parent-Teacher conferences will be held at Page High School Thursday, September 25 from 3-6 p.m. and Monday, October 6 from 3-6 p.m. by appointment. Please e-mail the teacher or teachers you would need to see so that they may schedule your appointment. Picture make-ups for grades 9-11 will be Tuesday, September 30 from 7 a.m. until noon by appointment. Please e-mail Megan Comer at megan.comer@wcs.edu if your student was not able to have their school pictures taken yet this year. It will be held in the Ringstafff gymnasium lobby and students should just go there at the time of the scheduled appointment with their appointment card from Ms. Comer.

Ravenwood High

The Ravenwood High counseling department invites athletes and their families to the annual NCAA Athletic Eligibility Night at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, September 16 in the RHS Performing Arts Center (RPAC). The guest speaker will be Steph Castera from the Ohio Valley Conference.

Renaissance High

September 17 will be school Picture Day at Renaissance High. These pictures will go in the yearbook and will also be available for purchase.

Summit High

Summit High School recently named its August Students of the Month. The freshmen Students of the Month are Bryan Aguilar and Sarah Rockholt; the sophomores are Brandon Crawford and Summer Spicer; the juniors are Fredi Villasenor and Belle Turner; and the seniors are Dillon Waggoner and Alessandra Goodside.
