Crockett Elementary

This year Crockett Elementary had 155 students run in the kids marathon. We are so proud of our students. They worked very hard to complete the 26.2 miles necessary for the event. As for academic news, TCAP was the big news of the week. Students have worked rigorously all year and we are sure their hard work will be reflected. Mrs. Vaughn’s third grade class performed “Cheetah and Sloth” for Ms. Vachon’s third grade class to help get them mentally prepared for TCAP. While the upper grades have been busy with TCAP, kindergarten through second grade have been busy with reading and math assessments. In other academic news, second graders in Mrs. Gray’s class made a habitat for red worms and learned about composting and the decomposition of soil.

Edmondson Elementary

Mrs. Clark’s third graders and Mr. Cicero’s second graders at Edmondson Elementary recently paired as writing partners. During the unit, the students worked together to navigate through the writing process. As writing partners, the students not only shared their work but helped one another as they drafted, revised, edited and published their pieces. What a fun writing celebration it was!

At Fairview Elementary this week, we have been rocking the TCAP test! We had an awesome pep rally last week to prepare and then dove head first into the test! We are also gearing up to finish our school year, but we never quit learning! Kindergarten and first grade have been preparing for mother’s day programs and presents. Second grade continues to learn and do experiments with soil. They recently got to take home with plants. To celebrate the end of the year, students gathered for an assembly to announce the winners for the PBIS limo ride and trip to Chuck E. Cheese. A boy and girl from each grade level was drawn. This is a much anticipated event at NES and students were really excited. Cardinal Council announced the total amount collected for Pennies for Patients at the assembly too. Hosted by the Williamson County Cultural Arts Commission at Landmark Booksellers, the students performed their original music, and everyone enjoyed food provided by Suzette Catering and Events. Many parents and students attended the event as well as people from the community, and over 50 albums were sold. Dan Haseltine, a member of the band Jars of Clay and co-founder of Blood:Water attended the listening party where many students heard the final product for the first time. When Zach Boehm, producer of the Wally Show on WAYFM heard about the CD, he offered to take a copy on his recent trip to Africa with Blood:Water. He sent back photos and a brief video of the African children who will benefit from the money raised through the sales of the CD. The CD Harmony in Chaos was created, produced and marketed by the senior class as part of project- based learning at RNHS. The class decided that all the proceeds from the album would go to benefit Blood:Water Mission, a local nonprofit that works to bring clean water to Africa and end the HIV/AIDS crisis. You can learn more about what they do on their website www.bloodwater.org.

Summit High

Two Summit High fishing teams recently competed in a B.A.S.S. sanctioned high school tournament on Center Hill Lake in Cookeville. The tournament had 32 teams from seven different high schools from the southeastern part of Middle Tennessee. We fished against some of the best high school teams in Tennessee. Our two teams, Will Bennett/Thomas Sanders and Seth Abernethy/Preston Bond had a pretty good day on the lake. Seth and Preston were able to grind out a five fish limit and managed to finish a very respectable 3rd place. This is the first five fish limit and first team to ever place in the prizes of any of our teams since we started Summit Fishing in 2014. Their weight was 11.47 lbs. on one of the toughest lakes in middle Tennessee as the fish are in transition to the spawning season. These young men have set a new bar for the rest of the Summit Fishing teams.
