Brownie troops 2930, 1605, and 1475 recently donated 3 trees to Crockett Elementary School. The Tulip Poplar trees were purchased by the girls from the money they raised selling Girl Scout Cookies. The gift of trees was made as part of the girls “making the world a better place” and “giving back” to their communities. The troops helped plant the trees on the playground during their recess. A special thanks to Principal Bohrer and teacher Jason Newman for digging the holes! In other news, second graders learned more about the “6 Simple Machines” when Mr. Bond, the Science Guy, visited the school. They were able to have a hands-on lesson with many simple machines, and even experienced “electricity” at the end of the program. Alison Andrews, Lily Hollowell, Taylor Schmidt, Charlie Bedrosian, George Johnson, Patrick Sullivan, Carol Milne, Brady Gutting and Ethan McEwan came up close and personal with a lightning bolt! Speaking of special guests, to celebrate Arbor Day season, Jennifer Gosciniak from Keep Williamson Beautiful and Jay Sanders, from Middle Tennessee Electric recently talked with kindergarteners and first graders about the importance of trees through a program called Tree Wise. As part of the program, students were given a Kousa Dogwood tree to plant in their yard. In upcoming events, kindergarten registration will be held on March 25 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. and on March 26 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. until 7 p.m. The third grade music program is now scheduled for March 26 at 6 p.m. in the cafeteria.

Fairview Elementary
We are all about the books at FES during book fair week. Our students love visiting the book fair and making a wish list of books they want to take home. It’s one of the most exciting times of the year! We are especially excited to enjoy our family night on Thursday, March 12 where students will have the opportunity to visit the book fair and do some math and reading activities. Should be a great time! We are also gearing up to celebrate Pi day on Friday, March 13. Lots of classrooms have been at work making pi hats and pi charts. They are also working at solving math tasks for the honor of “pie-ing” our principal, Mr. Oakley, and math coach, Mrs. Butler, in the face on Friday at community meeting! We can’t wait!

HES second graders have also been collecting canned foods all month to donated to Spring Hill’s local food pantry, The Well. This is their way to “Make a Difference.”

Thank you to Mrs. Puryear and all of the students and parents who came out for the math fun!
Pearre Creek Elementary
Our Spring Book Fair has been going on the last two weeks at Pearre Creek Elementary. Thanks to our librarian, Julie Boggess, and many wonderful volunteers, our library was transformed into a magical, undersea kingdom. Tuesday was a special day which started as students and faculty dressed as their favorite character. It ended with Family Night where we celebrated with food, balloon animals and face painting, along with some really awesome books for sale! We also had a large turnout for our annual “Jump Rope for Heart.” This was a huge success and the Pearre Creek families raised over $7,600 for the American Heart Association. It was a fun night for all!

This includes understanding that matter can exist in three different states: solid, liquid and gas. Students have read informational texts on matter to help them prepare for this. During Chemistry Day, the students get a chance to test different substances and describe both physical and chemical changes that occur. The students will make predictions and write about the changes they see while experimenting with the substances.
