The information below is provided by each school. Schools are listed in alphabetical order according to grade level.
Elementary Schools
Allendale Elementary
This year, health was introduced as a specials class for Allendale students! Some of the topics covered will be physical health, social health, emotional health, body systems, nutrition and fitness. Students will benefit by learning about these topics and be encouraged to live a healthy lifestyle.
Bethesda Elementary
Shelley Bosarge’s fourth grade math students at Bethesda Elementary School are using manipulative objects to learn math. They are also using the matrix model to learn and to practice multiplying double digit and triple digit numbers.
Crockett Elementary
Crockett Elementary is pleased to welcome four new faces to our faculty this semester. Diane Crawford, Krystle Maloney and Joy Harms will be working in our student support services department as educational assistants. Krystle and Joy will be working with our early childhood program, while Diane will be working with our K-5 students. We are also fortunate to have a new position at Crockett to begin the new year. Candice Coffey will be an interventionist working specifically with our fourth or fifth grade students. Candice joins the Crockett faculty after serving as a teacher in Charlotte, North Carolina for the past few years. We are thrilled to welcome all four of these ladies to the Crockett family.
Fairview Elementary
FES is gearing up for the TCAP writing assessment coming in February! Third, fourth and fifth grades are all taking practice tests to get used to the new program and review how they did. The students can’t wait to get in there and show what they know. Third graders are enjoying a special treat this week. If they read for more than 160 minutes over winter break, they get to enjoy lunch with their teachers in their classrooms. Lots of students qualified and read some great books!
Heritage Elementary
Heritage Elementary students are back in the swing of school! Although the temperatures were cold outside the first day back from break, students stayed warm and celebrated at the Brentwood Skate Center for their monthly HES Skate Night after school.
Kenrose Elementary
Mrs. Kramer’s first grade class at Kenrose Elementary collected 102 new or gently used books for Napier Elementary School in Nashville.
Lipscomb Elementary
Mary Beth Carroll’s first grade class at Lipscomb Elementary enjoyed writing and sharing their New Year’s resolutions with one another.
Oak View Elementary
Oak View is ready for an exciting 2015! First grade is busy reading books by Mo Willems in preparation for their upcoming trip to The Nashville Children’s Theater to see a live performance of “Elephant & Piggie We Are In A Play!” Speaking of plays, third grade will begin rehearsals next week for their upcoming performance of “Celebrate You and Me!” Fifth grade will soon begin a project researching presidents and first ladies. Students will complete an outline, write a paper, and make a presentation using the information from their research. World language classes begin at Oak View on January 26. Registration ends on January 9.
Scales Elementary
Fifth grader Caron McDaniel third grader Durham Donelson share fraction projects and tread fraction stories during Math Buddy time at Scales Elementary.
Sunset Elementary
Fourth and fifth graders at Sunset Elementary participated in the 2015 National Geographic School Bee. After a preliminary competition, the field was narrowed to ten students who then competed in the final round. Congratulations to Jack Veinburgs, the school champion and Brooks Taylor, second runner up.
Trinity Elementary
The fourth grade at Trinity Elementary School celebrated Colonial Day on December 17. The students were able to attend four different stations during their colonial experience. The stations included sock doll making, a colonial game, silversmith shop and butter making. The students were also able to dress in colonial attire. They had a great time!
Walnut Grove Elementary
This week at Walnut Grove, everyone was glad to be back to school to see old friends and welcome new students. Our second graders jumped back into their classwork with ease. In reading, students are focusing on accuracy, fluency, expression and purpose. This strengthens skills in comprehension. Our students are building on their prior knowledge of addition and subtraction by using different strategies to problem solve various tasks. Also, in science, second graders are identifying the six simple machines in our everyday world and will learn how they make our work easier.
Winstead Elementary
Welcome back and Happy New Year. In Ms. Spain’s art class, students are reviewing the elements and principles of art. Students are illustrating and learning songs about elements and principles. Next week, they will begin creating winter scenes. Important dates to remember: January 19, No School for MLK Day; February 3, talent show tryouts; February 4, spring pictures.
Middle Schools
Grassland Middle
Seventh grade science teacher Lisa Robinson recently gave her students a hands-on learning opportunity as they learn about the human body. Students traced each other on paper and then attached organs in the appropriate areas.
Spring Station Middle
On Monday, December 15, the Spring Station Middle School Student Council visited Allendale Elementary to read to Mrs. Holloway’s first grade class. The Spring Station students wanted to volunteer their time to members of our local school community, as well as dedicate this day to the students of Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut. Both the middle and elementary kids had a wonderful time sharing their love of books and getting to know one another.
Sunset Middle
Mrs. Schmidt’s eighth grade multimedia classes are working on creating a school newspaper. Each paper must include a headline story about something going on in Williamson County, one interview, information about the school, and an article related to whatever topic they choose. They are using the skills they have learned throughout the semester in Microsoft Word to complete this project! They have really enjoyed researching their topics and conducting their interviews.
Woodland Middle
Woodland Warrior Mathletes competed in the AMC 8 Math Competition! Sixth graders who placed include: Joseph Moore (1st), Sheeline Yu (2nd) and Shree Kypa (3rd). Seventh graders who placed include: James Thomas (1st), Stewart Moore (2nd) and Kevin Li (3rd). Eighth graders who placed include Rhea Zaverchand (1st), Nilai Sheth (2nd) and Ishan Sathe (3rd). First place overall for the school was James Thomas; second place was a tie between Joseph Moore and Stewart Moore and third place was Sheeline Yu.High Schools
Centennial High
Congratulations to the CHS wrestling team on their 4th place finish at the Beech tournament. Cole Iler had the winning match of the day and finished first; Adam Fuller took second. They also finished 5th out of 18 teams at the Indy tournament. CHS HOSA and STARS organizations are joining together to raise “pennies for patients” to benefit cancer patients. Beginning January 12th, there will be collection boxes in each classroom for students to drop in their pennies. The class collecting the most money will celebrate with a pizza lunch. Hey Cougars! Franklin High
Over the break, the varsity wrestling team competed in two tournaments: the Bradley Invitational in Chattanooga and the Derby City Classic in Louisville where they finished 5th overall with four wrestlers in the finals including Josh Filbey (Champion), Jack Holloran, Cameron Vogt and Jack Shrader (Runner-up). The following students made All Mid-State Band for this school year: Sarah Besand, Dawson Whitehead, Zoe Kendall, Ally Minucci, Jason Frazier, Jason Davidson, Audrey Binnicker, Madelyn Vincent, Maddox Myers, Ryan Fisher, Meagan Vincent, Sam Stone, Anaea Dossey, Mikaela Ray, Parker Albert, Caleb Hoffman and Michael Hall. Meanwhile, there will be a meeting for all students who have applied for the Tennessee Promise Scholarship on Tuesday, January 13th, at 5:30 pm in the FHS Cafeteria. Students will learn more about Tennessee Promise, tnAchieves, college admissions and financial aid processes, and students will also have the opportunity to meet and communicate with their mentors. Parents are welcome to attend, but the meeting is mandatory for student applicants to remain eligible for the scholarship. See your counselor with any questions.
Summit High
The 2014-15 wrestling season got off to a great start for Summit High! The varsity wrestling team compiled a 20-1 dual meet record finishing fifth at the MTSU Alumni Duals, winning the Mt. Juliet Duals and finishing 2nd at the McGavock Invitational.
