Crockett Elementary

Students in grades 3-5 wrote booktalks on a book they had recently read. Then, students created a QR code using their text. When students have trouble finding a book in the library, this bulletin board provides a way for students to see what books their peers are enjoying. Students and teachers alike enjoy using this bulletin board as a way to find their next great book.

Edmondson Elementary

The third grade students at Edmondson Elementary recently did chemical testing for their matter unit. They tested five “mystery powders” and tried to make educated guesses while experimenting with heat, vinegar, water, red cabbage juice and iodine to help determine the powders. After all the testing was complete, teachers revealed the “mystery powders” to the students.

Fairview Elementary

We have been all about that math here at Fairview Elementary! Each week a class is chosen to write a math problem. Then the following week other students in that grade block try to solve that problem by showing equations, writing words, and drawing pictures. The class who wrote the task then has to decide who best answered the question. The winner is presented with a trophy. First graders have taken this a step farther and are solving a task a week! They can’t get enough math! Meanwhile, third, fourth and fifth graders have been busy taking the TCAP writing assessment. They show off their writing skills in this online prompt. They worked really hard to get to this point and everyone is excited to see their great work!

Heritage Elementary

Heritage Elementary held its 3rd Annual Daddy/Daughter Dance on February 6. The PTO-sponsored event had over 350 daughters in attendance with their fathers! Lifetouch portraits were taken; door prizes were given; and cake and punch was served. Girls from Pre-K to 5th grade had a wonderful time.

Kenrose Elementary

Kenrose Elementary School held its annual Father/Daughter dance on February 6. Father and daughters shared snacks, danced and had a great time. Thanks to all who participated.

The fourth and fifth grade reading club at Lipscomb recently invited local author Kevin Glascow for breakfast and a book signing. His book entitled The Pickle Jar was enjoyed by all. Meanwhile, to celebrate Random Acts of Kindness Week, students at LES wore their college logo gear and showed kindness to college students by inspiring them with notes and letters.

Congratulations to all of the students who represented Nolensville Elementary at the 4-H speaking competition. ENCORE! registration was held Saturday, February 7 at Nolensville Elementary. Over 500 students were registered for camp this summer. Two sessions will be held, June 8-12 and July 6-10. NES and Sunset Elementary schools partner together to provide a fantastic enrichment opportunity. ENCORE! is geared for students who have completed kindergarten through fifth grades. Camp directors Shantel Watson and Jessica Morgan, along with many counselors and support staff, hope to ignite and foster a love of learning through challenging, creative, and interactive educational classes. Just a few options this year include: Glow Week, Crazy about Cookies, Perfect Poetry, Wacky Watercolors, Kick It, and Wrestling 101. Information packets are available at Sunset and Nolensville.

Pearre Creek Elementary

In Science this week at Pearre Creek Elementary, first graders are closely observing millipedes and their habitats. They built terrariums for them, providing soil, water, leaves, and bits of food to meet their needs. Scales Elementary

Parents and students enjoyed the fourth Annual Family Math Night at Scales Elementary February 5. Click here to watch a video recap of the event!

Trinity Elementary

Third grade recently had Market Day recently to experience economics in an exciting way. The students earned “money” over several weeks, created products, and then sold them to their consumers (their classmates). They were able to truly understand the real-life issue of supply and demand, as certain products sold quite quickly! This was certainly one of their favorite days of the year thus far!

Walnut Grove Elementary

Walnut Grove’s Green Team was started in February of 2014 in order to increase the amount and types of materials recycled at the school. While the school already had a parent recycling committee, we wanted to encourage student involvement in the school’s desire to become more green. Because of the previous year’s recycling efforts, Walnut Grove was able to buy new stackable bins for each classroom. Responsibilities of the Green Team members include collecting and emptying these bins in each classroom every Friday morning and also helping to educate classmates and younger students on the environmental impacts of recycling.

Winstead Elementary

Winstead third grade science classes are learning about forces. In math, students made fraction posters and will review the properties of multiplication. In ELA, students will study independent/dependent clauses, homophones and cause and effect. In social studies, students will get to know our European countries more in depth. The week will finish off with Valentine’s Day parties!

During advisory on Tuesdays this month, our students will participate in activities that broaden their knowledge of black history.

Spring Station Middle

Spring Station Middle School is one of several schools that now select a Successory winner every week! One of the most recent winners is 6th grade ELA teacher Kim Laughary. She was nominated by 7th grader Cheyenne Scott. Our staff is loving the fact that a lot of the winners are nominated by students they had in previous years.

Sunset Middle

Congratulations to the Sunset Middle Mini Mu team! Seventh-grade students are going through the interview process in which they are writing questions and conducting an interview with an adult. The context of the interview is about an experience that person had with an event that impacted world history in the last 75 years. Some interviewees include Navy Seals who were involved in the capturing of Bin Laden, police officers in Memphis during the assassination of MLK Jr., Nashvillians who were deserted during the flood of 2010, runners in the Boston bombing and an Olympic athlete.
