Elementary Schools
Allendale Elementary
The kindergarteners at Allendale have been having a blast during the holiday season! They celebrated by rotating to seven different countries for Holidays Around the World. They learned all about how different countries and cultures celebrate the season. They will be ending the holiday season by doing fun activities geared around The Polar Express Book by Chris Van Allsburg.
Bethesda Elementary
Bethesda Elementary School has three proud winners from the Williamson County 4H Achievement Banquet on Tuesday December 9. They are Olivia Bellini, Susan Snowdon and Steven Chunn. Both students are fifth grade students, and Ms. Susan Snowdon is a fifth grade teacher. Olivia Bellini won the Honor Achievement award for her first place win in the County and Regional contest for her demonstration speech. Ms. Susan Snowdon was awarded a plaque for being a teacher leader and Steven Chunn won first in the county and demonstration contest for his poultry project.

Clovercroft Elementary
Clovercroft’s third graders will participate in Market Day. Students will bring their creations to sell to their classmates and also use money they’ve earned to buy goods from each other. Also, Clovercroft had 20 students participate in the recent Mini Mu competition. Congratulations to the following fourth graders who placed in the event: Carly Safford Jake Braun, Sean Beyer, Kazuki Fujitani, and John Thomas Atema. Rayyan Syed placed in the fifth grade Batman test.

Crockett Elementary
Ryan Cullen, a Crockett Elementary School second grader, was selected as Artsonia’s Pre-K-3rd “Artist of the Week!” for the week of December 14-20. During the contest, Ryan received 641 votes from website visitors! In other art news, students have been busy making various projects out of clay to be fired in a kiln and sent home in January. A special thank you goes to our art teacher, Crystal Jahnig, for all of her hard work. Wydell Croom, Crockett’s Music teacher, also deserves a special thank you for the wonderful performances this week by the Crockett Chorus. Finally, the whole Crockett community deserves a big thank you for collecting and delivering toys to the Robert Churchwell Museum Magnet School and bringing joy to 104 children.
Edmondson Elementary
Emily Click’s second grade class at Edmondson Elementary learned some basics in computer coding. Before the students went into the computer lab to create code, they practiced creating a “code” for stacking cups in a pyramid. They wrote down arrows to create this code then stacked the cups back to the starting point and tried to create the pyramid again using the code they wrote. It was a great precursor to writing actual code in the lab.
Fairview Elementary
So many exciting things are happening at school! We are gearing up for winter break by going out with a bang! First grade is “traveling” around the world to discover traditions of eight places. They took their airplane ticket with a suitcase and passport. They traveled to America, Germany, Japan, Australia, Mexico, Brazil, Liberia and Antarctica (a surprise awaited them in Antarctica since no people are allowed to live there). The students loved discovering different places and learning new things!
Heritage Elementary
Heritage Elementary hosted its 3rd Annual Breakfast with Santa on December 13. This event is sponsored by the HES PTO. Students enjoyed a hot breakfast, crafts, face painting, musical performances by HES “GLEE” and pictures with Santa.
Hunters Bend Elementary
A big thanks to all the second grade parents who purchased books for our classrooms from the book fair. We appreciate your generosity! Third graders will be participating in a Market Day this week to purchase products made during the Winter Workshop. They will be creating an advertisement to attract consumers and workers will spend their hard earned wages to buy these crafty items. Hands on Economics equals a lot of fun! The students will be designing their own zoo in math. They will have to find the area and perimeter of everything in their zoo. We would like to thank our librarian, Joni Nesbitt, and our library assistant, Marsha Smitherman, for all their help in the book fair last week. We would also like to thank our wonderful PTO moms and dads that came to help during the book fair. The book fair was a wonderful success thanks to all their hard work!
Kenrose Elementary
Kenrose Elementary fifth graders graders spent two days at JA Biztown. Students used real world life skills to operate a community. In other news, Kenrose has selected Amy Kate McMurry as Teacher of the Year, Helen Gore as Classified Employee of the Year and Cheryl Sutton Dunn as Substitute Teacher of the Year.
Lipscomb Elementary
Lipscomb Elementary third, fourth and fifth graders recently performed their winter play, SNOW BIZ. The chorus sang, the dance team performed and there was stage craft. It was a fun time for all.
Nolensville Elementary
Last week was a busy one at Nolensville Elementary. Tuesday evening, third graders performed “Snow” and on Thursday evening second graders performed the same program. Both grade levels did a fantastic job! Music teachers Shelley Exler, Hannah Kuchar, and Sheila Dickerson did a great job preparing students for the performance. Fifth grade students had an incredible experience at Biztown on Wednesday and Thursday of last week. Students had an opportunity to learn about communities, personal finances and business management. Biztown provides real life applications of social studies, language arts and math.
Pearre Creek Elementary
Congratulations to fourth grader Ella Bobbitt who finished first in the NFL Punt, Pass, Kick Contest at the Sectional Competition to advance to the Team Championship. The Team Championship was held this past Sunday, December 7 at the Titans game. Ella was recognized at the game and came in second place at the event. She said the highlight of her day was when she was on the sidelines at the game and caught a ball that Eli Manning threw out of bounds. She said it was moving pretty fast!

Trinity Elementary
The fourth grade at Trinity Elementary School celebrated Colonial Day on Wednesday, December 17. The students were able to attend four different stations during their colonial experience. The stations included sock doll making, a colonial game, a silversmith shop and butter making. The students were also able to dress in colonial attire.
Walnut Grove Elementary
Walnut Groves’ students performed the Winter Choral Program for parents, peers, friends and relatives. Preparing for the concert provided many learning experiences for the students. Those in grades three through five practiced weekly before school. Students were taught to focus on the importance of correct vocal technique, listening skills, performance skills, responsible rehearsal habits and the value of collaboration. Students learned to be disciplined as they worked hard and learned the importance of preparing for a performance. Ultimately, they learned to appreciate and enjoy music.
Winstead Elementary
Winstead will celebrates the Winter Break by singing some of their favorite holiday songs in a sing-a-long December 19. Students will gather together to bring in winter and to end the first semester. The staff is grateful for all the love and support from our Winstead families. They would like to wish everyone a safe and wonderful Winter Break.
Middle Schools
Grassland Middle
Seventh grade science teacher Lisa Robinson gave her students a hands-on learning opportunity as they learned about the human body. Students traced each other on paper and then attached organs in the appropriate areas.
Heritage Middle
Congratulations to the HMS boys varsity soccer team. They came in second place in the championship game against Sunset! Deb Shrum is the head coach and Heather Coorey is the assistant coach. In other news, students have been studying hard, testing rigorously and beating the benchmark tests into the ground this week so they can celebrate at the Frozen Winter Wonderland Dance, sponsored by HMS Student Council and the HMS Cheerleaders.
Hillsboro K-8
Congratulations to the following students were selected to the MTSBOA All Mid-State Band! There were nearly 1,700 students from the region who attended auditions last Saturday and the competition is very intense. The students below will attend the All Mid-State Band weekend at MTSU in January: Nicholas Hoffmann (5th chair trombone Gold Band), Joshua Brandt (2nd chair bassoon Silver Band), Joshua Smith (20th chair clarinet Silver Band), and Christian Darr (2nd alternate trombone).
Spring Station Middle
The Spring Station Middle School Student Council visited Allendale Elementary to read to Mrs. Holloway’s 1st grade class. The Spring Station students wanted to volunteer their time to members of our local school community, as well as dedicate this day to the students of Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut. Both middle and elementary students had a wonderful time sharing their love of books and getting to know one another.
Sunset Middle
The Lady Sabers ended their soccer season last week. Despite a beautiful goal from team captain Madeline “Postal” Wood, the Lady Sabers fell in the quarterfinals of the county tournament. However, a special congratulations goes to Emma “Bono” Bonamie for being selected to the WMAA All-Tournament Team. Congratulations to all these players on a great season!
Woodland Middle
Woodland Middle School student Makenna St. Clair recently presented Nashville Metropolitan Social Services with 400 handmade holiday cards to be delivered to home bound senior citizens this week. NMSS will deliver them along with gifts they have prepared for these needy seniors for the holidays. Makenna also presented them with a USB drive with copies of the various cards she made as well as some supplies to hopefully carry this program forward from year to year.
Woodland Middle School student Makenna St. Clair recently created 400 holiday cards for the elderly.
High Schools
Brentwood High
Congratulations to the BHS swim team. The Aquabruins are the Williamson County Champions. It was a close meet but points were scored in almost every event. Both the boys and the girls won their meets also. Way to go!
Fairview High
Yearbooks are on sale now. The price is $75. Order forms are available at the front office or by completing a form online at http://www.balfour.com. Yearbooks are scheduled for summer delivery.
Franklin High
Musa Subramaniam took fourth place in Extemporaneous Speaking at the Western Kentucky University Hilltopper Classic this weekend. This placement, along with his second place finish at the state tournament last spring combine to secure a Tournament of Champions spot in May. Meanwhile, there will be a meeting for all students who have applied for the Tennessee Promise Scholarship on Tuesday, January 13 at 5:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. Students will learn more about Tennessee Promise, college admissions and financial aid processes. Students will also have the opportunity to meet and communicate with their mentors. Parents are welcome to attend, but the meeting is mandatory for student applicants to remain eligible for the scholarship. See your counselor with any questions.
Ravenwood High
Join the Ravenwood Music Department February 15 for a night of Music 4 Music! Tickets are now on sale! Artists will be announced in January. All proceeds raised go directly to the band program at Ravenwood. Tickets can be purchased at www.ravenwoodband.com.
Summit High
Congratulations to Summit’s Students of the Month for November! Seniors Bailee Ray and Sean Samuels; juniors Amber Turner and Collin Hensel; sophomores Ashlyn Keasler and Chase Breeding; and freshmen Angelica Martin and Addison Reed.
