Elementary Schools
Allendale Elementary
On Friday, April 24 from 5:30 p.m. until 9 a.m., Allendale Elementary School will host their annual Tail-Gator! There will be games, a silent auction, a cake walk and a party bus. Chick-fil-A, Sweet Cee Cee’s, BBQ, hot dogs, and hamburgers will be available for purchase. This event is open to the public. It is a fun filled night for everyone.
Clovercroft Elementary
Clovercroft students will attend a TCAP kickoff assembly on Thursday, April 30. The assembly will consist of two skits that feature the cast of Frozen (Journey to the Land of the Stress Monster and Elsa’s advice). These skits are presented by teachers to help the students remember to relax as they begin the TCAP assessments. Meanwhile, the Clovercroft’s Student Council helped to paint a friendship bench that is on the playground.
Crockett Elementary
Kindergartners at Crockett Elementary School are studying small animals like worms, gold fish, snails and pill bugs in science. This week, they rotated classrooms and learned about a different animal each day. As part of their lesson on worms, students were given the opportunity to handle a live worm and examine it up close. Second graders are finishing up their study of rocks and will begin studying about renewable and nonrenewable resources. As part of their literature unit, second grade is also studying energy sources. In other news, the Run Club finished up this week with approximately 150 students participating; logging a total of 750 miles in three short weeks.
Edmondson Elementary
Edmondson hosted a Family Math Night which offers an opportunity for parents, siblings and other relatives to attend a fun-filled evening of mathematical games. The intent of Family Math Night is to participate in math standards in action as we strengthen the mathematical application, problem solving and communication skills of students through the power of family interaction. Prizes were awarded throughout the night. Supporting growth in mathematics is a top priority for the EES community.
Fairview Elementary
Fairview Elementary students are hard at work as usual getting ready for testing and gearing up for the end of the year. As spring has come, students are using their science skills to explore their outside world a little closer. Second graders in particular have bene studying soil and plants in their science kits. They have done experiments with different types of soil and have been keeping a soil book to chart the results. They have also been talking about taking care of the earth and recycling. They did a project where the students brought in recyclable materials and they created sculptures out of them. Then, on April 22, Earth Day, a guest speaker came and spoke about Keep Williamson Beautiful and read a book about not littering. They are ready to take care of our planet!
Grassland Elementary
Grassland Elementary’s Shining Apple Award was presented to grandmother Doreen Huff for her dedication, commitment and participating in serving on the GSCA Luncheon Committee. Congratulations Ms. Huff! Thank you to everyone who attended Spirit Night at Chick-fil-A on Thursday, April 9. What a fun night – GES families raised money for GES. A big thank you to Wendy Zupa for organizing the fun event! Mrs. Wetherholt’s First Grade Class won the cookie party for the most participants at Chick-fil-A Spirit Night.
Heritage Elementary
Heritage Elementary Spring Fling is Friday night, April 24 from 5 p.m until 8 p.m. Wrist bands for children are $10. Come enjoy great food, bounce houses, music and games. On Monday, April 20, Heritage Elementary teachers and staff celebrated the life of former HES student Cameron O’Reilly. Teachers, staff and students wore her favorite color, teal, in honor of her. Cameron will always be in the hearts of Heritage Elementary.
Hunters Bend Elementary
We would like to thank all parents and family who have contributed to our Boosterthon. PTO is busy counting pledge money. Please be sure you have sent in your pledge! We even had our sweet students donating their allowance money to support the school! School supply kits are available for purchase. The website is www.shopttkits.com. Our school code is 30251. Field day is May 11. Kindergarten through second grade will be 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Third through fifth grade will be from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. We are still in need of volunteers to make this a fun day for our students. Nolensville Elementary
Parent volunteers Carrie Hammonds and Christy Bennett have been assisting PE teacher Deborah Russell with the NES marathon crew. Every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday students met on the playground to run the required miles prior to the marathon finish. In addition to t-shirts from marathon sponsors, participants also ordered shirts personalized with the NES logo. Packets were passed out April 23 with the marathon number, t-shirts and some other goodies.
Oak View Elementary
The 2nd annual “Give a Hoot” run was a huge success. It was a perfect day for runners and walkers of all ages. Everyone enjoyed the band, the weather and the snow cones – all for a good cause! On Tuesday evening, Oak View hosted the art show and spring chorus concert. Student artwork was on display throughout the halls where parents and students came and admired the wonderful art. Once everyone had seen the artwork, it was time for the chorus concert in the gym. The chorus is made up of fourth and fifth grade students who practice weekly before school. Their hard work certainly paid off because they sounded fabulous. It was a great evening for the arts at Oak View.
Pearre Creek Elementary
Boom Clap, Boom Boom Clap! Sticks, buckets, basketballs, recorders, drums, claves, voices, xylophone’s, three little birds, and more COWBELL! Pearre Creek’s music teacher, Anthony Bernhauser, is busy getting the fifth grade students ready for the fifth grade Variety Show which takes place next Tuesday, April 28 at 7 p.m. Anyone is welcome to attend.
Scales Elementary
Second graders from Scales Elementary paid a recent visit to Boiling Spring Academy where they learned what school was like for students in the 19th Century. Meanwhile, the Scales Green Team recently completed a recycling project in which they made a artwork of the earth and a rainbow out of bottle caps.
Trinity Elementary
Trinity Elementary School’s student council enjoyed desserts from Newk’s after they led a successful fundraising campaign for their school and raised $4,032 for Make-A-Wish Middle Tennessee!
Walnut Grove Elementary
Third grade will go on a scientific field trip to the Harpeth River in Edwin Warner Park on Thursday. The students will be guided through six stations that explore scientific biology standards in a hands-on outdoor classroom. The students will use nets and turn over rocks to catch critters in the river. They will go to a station to try and identify the critters and discuss their adaptations that help them survive. In the crayfish and Bess beetle stations, students will diagram their anatomy, and examine their behavior. The students will build water sampling devices to filter water, and measure how fast the water is flowing. Finally the students will have a chance to go on a plant scavenger hunt that explores different relationships between plants.
Westwood Elementary
Dozens of students were honored April 17 at Westwood Elementary’s awards ceremony. Students in grades K-5 received recognition for everything from academic achievement to poetry. Fifth grader Jazmine Gonzalez was also awarded the Academic All-Star prize for the school.
Winstead Elemenary
Winstead fourth graders were busy this week with a vigorous TCAP Boot Camp. Students embarked on a journey that separates the scared from the prepared. Students polished their combat boots, pull out their camouflage, and marched into TCAP Basic Training. The week was filled with fun TCAP review. Thank You to all our parents and students for a wonderful teacher appreciation week.
Middle Schools
Fairview Middle
FMS’s first ever Special Olympic Unified Basketball Team won the gold medal at the state games held at Lipscomb University March 13 and 14. Thanks to everyone who supported the team. Coaches were Jamie Layne and George Potter.
Grassland Middle
Vanderbilt Mens Basketball Coach Kevin Stallings is expected to be the guest speaker at the April 27 All Pro Dads meeting at Grassland Elementary. All Pro Dads is an organization for fathers who want to be a good role model for their children.
Heritage Middle
Heritage Middle School is gearing up for TCAP with our after school TCAP Study Jam sessions! In the past week we have had a Study Jam session for our seventh and eighth graders with over 80 students in each session. According to our principal, Ms. Taylor, the response from students and parents has been overwhelmingly positive. One parent commented that the session really helped clarify some things in English and math that her son was having difficulties with and now he is much more confident going into the testing! Way to go HMS!
Hillsboro K-8

Page Middle
Page Middle School held its Fine Arts Night Thursday, April 23. Parents, students, relatives and community members were invited to the school to celebrate the talented students at Page Middle.
Sunset Middle
The Sunset Middle Bands performed their final concerts for the year on April 20 and 21. Our sixth graders opened the week with a bang as they performed a classic favorite, the main theme of “Star Wars” by John Williams. The seventh grade got the crowd excited with pop favorites “Happy” and “Best Day of my Life”, and our eighth grade gave a great tribute to Stevie Wonder with “Superstition” and closed the concert with a John Williams tribute to a band Dad who passed away late last week. Several awards were earned in each grade, including the Director’s Awards for Leadership and Musicianship. Students were recognized who went above and beyond this year by participating in the Midstate Band and Orchestra Clinic, the Williamson County Honor Band Clinic, and those who performed at the Williamson County Fine Arts Festival. It was a great end to a fantastic year with the Sunset Middle School Band Program.
Woodland Middle
On Tuesday students traveled to MTSU to compete in the Middle Grades Mathematics Contest. The Warriors showed their pride in taking first place overall in sixth grade and seventh grade team competitions. The sixth grade team consisted of Joseph Moore placing 10th with a score of 105; Shree Kypa placing in a tie for 7th with a score of 106; Sheeline Yu placing 4th with a score of 113; and Emma Meyer placing 2nd with a score of 115. The seventh grade team consisted of Mithul Nallaka placing in a tie for 16th1 with a score of 105; James Thomas placing 11th with a score of 114; Ankush Dhar placing in a tie for 2nd with a score of 130; and Stewart Moore placing in the top spot with a score of 140. Competing for the 8th grade was Rohith Vadapalli placing 14th with a score of 110 and Rhea Zaverchand placing in a tie for 7th with a score of 117. Way to go Warriors! Meanwhile, the Woodland Band and Choir recently competed in the Music in the Parks festival at Heritage High School in Maryville. The band received 2nd place in the Middle School band category with a score of 91 out of 100. The chorus of 40 eighth graders received 1st place in the middle school mixed choir division and also received the overall winners’ trophy!

Brentwood High
It’s Spring Cleaning time! The 12th Man Club will be collecting donations for Goodwill at BHS on Saturday, May 16 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Help support our program while supporting our community. Spread the word to your neighbors and friends!
Centennial High
The Centennial High School Spring Band Concert will be Friday, April 24. The concert will be held in the new performing arts center (PAC) at 7 p.m. The CHS varsity and freshman basketball cheerleaders will be holding a Yard Sale on April 25. The sale will take place from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the front entrance/parking lot of the school.Don’t forget to have your sports physical on Saturday, April 25 at the Vanderbilt Bone & Joint Center. The Centennial time is at 2 p.m. Be sure to mark your calendars to attend the CHS Art show on Monday April 27. Students’ art will be displayed throughout the hallways and Library. Tuesday, April 28 will be the CHS Senior Scholarship Program at 8 a.m. All senior parents are invited to attend.
Fairview High
If you have a child who attends school in Fairview, sign him/her up for Fairview O.N.E. today! Fairview O.N.E is a four week experience during the month of June for students in all grade levels. The program includes hands-on exploratory academics in the morning paired with afternoon exposure to places, things and experiences that Title One school students rarely have the opportunity to explore. Last year, for example, we were able to go backstage, downstairs and all around the Schermerhorn with a semi-private dress rehearsal by the orchestra. Franklin High
Five FHS Forensics Competitors took on Tennessee’s best at the State Speech and Debate Tourney in Knoxville on Saturday. Ahmed Mustafo, Zach Wolfson and Emily Hopkins competed well. Diana Pope made finals in Congress and Musa Subramaniam brought home 2nd place in Extemporaneous Speaking. The Forensics team is hosting a Forensics Showcase in the Library this Friday at 6 p.m. Our students will be performing their competition pieces and conducting a mini-debate. In addition, we will be recognizing the outstanding achievements of our team members. Spring practice and try-outs for the 2015-16 Boys Basketball Team will be May 11-15 from 2:45 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. The first two days will constitute try-outs. Anyone interested in trying out for the team must have a physical dated after April 15, 2015 to participate.
Independence High
The IHS Youth in Government team recently participated with 800 other Tennessee students in the 62nd Annual YMCA Youth Legislature Conference in Nashville. Cole Walraven, Grace Walraven, Alexandra Ryan, Madison Haddix, Delaney Fisher-Cassiol and Evan Moody participated in the three day conference. Alex Ryan, Maddie Haddix and Delaney Fisher-Cassiol were each recognized with an Outstanding Delegate Award. They represented IHS well.
Page High
Page High School will host its annual Awards Night Tuesday, April 28 at 6 p.m. in the theater. Meanwhile, the Page High School Drama Club will host the 7th annual Celebration of the Arts Friday, May 1 at 7 p.m. in the theater. The event will feature dance, drama, fashion, music and much more. Tickets are $3.
Ravenwood High
On April 18, the RHS Forensics Team competed in the Tennessee State Tournament in Knoxville. RHS brought home two 1st place wins in categories RHS had never placed first in before. The RHS team is coached by Brian Kaufman and Savannah Daigle.

Renaissance High
The Renaissance High senior class will hold an album release party at Landmark Booksellers in Franklin during the Franklin Art Crawl on Friday, May 1. Students will perform their original songs from the album, Harmony In Chaos. All donations and proceeds from the album sales and various student made artisan crafts will go directly to Blood:Water Mission.
