Oak View Elementary Donates to Governor’s Books From Birth Foundation

There will be a lot of reading going on throughout Tennessee thanks in part to this year’s Give a Hoot 5K/Fun Run at Oak View Elementary.

This year’s event raised $8,680 for the Governor’s Books From Birth Foundation.

“Each year we choose a charity and this year we knew the Governor’s Books From Birth Foundation would not only benefit children in Williamson County but children throughout the state of Tennessee,” said Oak View Elementary Principal Dr. Tom Morris. “We met with the foundation and figured out the logistics and we all were thrilled that this partnership could happen and this year we raised enough money to give over 8,000 books to children across Tennessee.”

In its second year, the run had around 400 total participants. The funds donated to the foundation were generated from registration rates for the race.

Countless volunteers including Cynthia Page, Tracy Karner and Shannon Smith have driven the ship for the fundraiser, helping with everything from sponsorships to public relations to official race timers. In addition to these women, countless volunteers and a great community have helped make this race a success.

“There’s no finer a community than the one we have here at Oak View,” said Morris. “They support our schools whether it’s an extracurricular activity like Hoot Scoot and Boogie in the fall or fun runs like this in the spring and we are so thankful for that involvement.”
