Local Business Participation Needed for Summer Student Internships

Published April 2, 2015

Williamson County Schools is asking local businesses to participate in a summer internship program that will give high school students an opportunity to learn about different jobs.

As part of the Williamson, Inc. education initiative, information about student internships and some examples of those that have been previously designed are available under the “Education” menu button at williamsonchamber.com. Click on “Partnership with WCS” in the roll-down menu to learn more about guidelines and the advantages employers derive from their involvement.

These workplace experiences may be paid or non-paid positions lasting a minimum of one week. Students often rotate through different departments at a single employer or work with different employers to gain a broader experience that fits their goals.

“These internships help students learn about workplace expectations and decide what career areas and industries are of interest to them,” said WCS Career and Technical Education Career Counselor Rebecca Collins. “The internship experience also helps them connect what they learn in the classroom to the world of work and get acquainted with the many job opportunities and resources in our community.”

Employers have the opportunity to interview and select the students they work with and are asked to provide feedback to enhance the learning experience.
